I saw that. They are good stuff though. mtmuleyI was rooting for the horse whose jockey had the “Dude Wipes” logo down the side of his racing breeches.
It’s one of the best horse performances I’ve ever seen.I have watched the replay a couple times and am in awe of what that horse and jockey did. mtmuley
Those horses in the lead had clean air. mtmuleyPerfect storm, clean air in front of horse, no debris in face (big deal), no fighting thru traffic getting bumped, no being restricted altering stride, open road to front on outside. Little more distance but when a horse can breathe clean air, no stride disturbances, open highway in front, they can keep their momentum and actually accelerate over distance. Still impressive showing he can go crank it up when jockey lets him go like that. I was really surprised no one else went outside to do same. Great horse and great ride by jockey!
Very true but exerted more energy in hard sprint from gate to get to the front. Sometimes horses that don't get relax time to gather themselves back up just can't get that final burst. Didn't Renegade come from back not near as far as Golden Tempo but they both had that extra gear ready. I did shoeing at Saratoga in another universe was really interesting to hear Jockeys and trainers talk about "setting" a horse up for final turn without burning them up. Each horse is different, some live to overtake, some just hate it. Very few have the physicality, the heart to go wire to wire. Their talks on traffic control was even more interesting. Some like contact others shrink from it. They called it bump and run too. Be surprised how horses get cut up from other shoes in heavy traffic. This can really affect their demeanor. Dirt in face was another issue but jockeys prob hate it more. PS it was hard to get paid so bailed out back to hobby horses. At least 99/100 had check in hand leaving their farms. Those horses in the lead had clean air. mtmuley
