The dam that never was

Six years ago (in the midst of the Corona virus shutdown) On Your Own Adventures/Fresh Tracks released a documentary called “Dam that Never Was” on Prime Video. @mdunc8, @Big Fin, Marcus, Michael, Dale, David and RJ along with Jim Posewitz showcase the story of how the Yellowstone River was going to be dammed, until it wasn’t.

Worth the less than twenty minutes to watch on YouTube, just for the scenery alone. But the idea of what can happen when a few strong voices speak up for wild things and wild places is inspiring.

Thanks for bringing this back to the top. It was one of the more meaningful projects I feel that we have done.

We just finished another video that will release in the next month about Bob Gibson, another person who worked for an agency and did some amazing landscape work that we all benefit from today.

I had talked about some of this in an old thread titled "What if?" The link is here - https://www.hunttalk.com/threads/what-if.290651/

It is hard to get some of these stories told. Time, funding, other fires to fight in public policy, result in a delay in getting some of these completed. We have a couple others scripted for longer films.

Marcus has presented a great idea to me that might accelerate this process. Rather than costly/lengthy films, do some of these as shorter stories, say 3-5 minutes. They might miss some of the color and details, but they will be more "consumable" in a world being trained by social media to watch/listen to 30-second clip.

We've had meetings this winter to outline some of the stories. Now, we need to allocate time and resources to get more of them going.

Having just given the final comments to the "Bob Gibson" story and having just re-watched this video, I realize how much pleasure I get in telling these stories. Hopefully we can get more of them published soon.
