Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

Took off some housing exposure today for small loss. The data from the space continues to be bad.

Seems there is some disagreement on the whole 10 point plan. Israel wants to continue to bomb Hezbollah and US and Iran are arguing over the "toll". Whole thing looks held together by glue and duct tape.

I was thinking scotch tape and silly puddy.

Regarding the fragile cease fire. Who could doubt the word of the Iranians, or Trump?

I hope it leads to some resolution, but would not bet on it.

Its pretty simple.

Thanks to the stupid decisions of the Trump administration after they joined Israel in starting the war, the country with all the leverage is Iran.

Israel hits Lebanon harder than ever AFTER the supposed cease fire agreement? It doesn't matter what the US says or does, Iran can claim the agreement was breached and keep the straight closed.

Most every objective stated as a reason by the US for starting the war has not been accomplished.

Allies have turned the other way and refused to help.

Iran is talking about collecting money before allowing ships to pass through the strait.

A cluster of epic proportions.

It is difficult to refute what you post, on the facts.

Everyone in the world is paying more for oil products than before the war started. Prices will not begin to decline significantly, until there is a lasting peace. How fast they come down, depends on how much damage is done to the oil infrastructure.

Iran was previously sanctioned, and had left the Strait of Hormuz open for international trade. Now they are declaring sovereignty over the Strait, and the right to charge a toll, for passage thru the Strait. I'd suspect they will demand to have all sanctions ended, if they are to agree to a peace plan.

We have strained our relationship with NATO partners, first by blindsiding them with the onset of the war. Later by complaining about their reluctance to join a preemptive war.

We failed in the effort to cause a regime change. We have not taken possession of the enriched uranium.

Other than bombing the shit out of things, and killing the older leaders, there is not much to point to. What is left is a population that will have further evidence of why they hate Israel and the US. They still possess the knowledge to build a nuclear weapon. I have to think that they realize that if they did have nuclear weapons, none of this would have happened. Many other non nuclear weapon countries have to consider whether they need one, to dissuade other countries from messing with them.

I'll get back in when oil is back down to $60 a barrel.

How about drone technology? Know any good companies in that area?

????? Where are you coming up with a ceasefire agreement between Israel protecting its self from Hezbola rockets? Did Hezbola agree to cease fire???? What leverage does Iran have that is beyond a few weeks? Iran is wiped out! We are giving Iran a chance as they are now using human shields as a last resort. We will sweep the mines very soon and control the straights shipping very soon if no deal is in force. Things will stabilize shortly as the markets are showing the past few days.

Not sure you are grasping the reality of the situation.

It was Trump who broadly announced a ceasefire between Iran and the US and everyone else in the region.

Very shortly after Trumps announcement, Israel hit Lebanon with its most intense attacks since the war started.

Iran in turn said the ceasefire isnt being lived up to.

Then Iran reiterated its assertion that they now control the strait. And furthermore, they announced their intention to require ships to pay a toll to Iran before any ships are allowed to cross through the strait.

Iran does not need missiles or massive firepower to keep the strait closed or require their toll fees. All they need is drones, which are very cheap and plentiful and easy to make.

Meanwhile Iran's new leaders are said by many to be more ruthless and hard-core than the previous ones were, any chance of Iran's people rising up to take over is gone, the world economy is in huge trouble, the US deficit grew even more, our military is weakened and needs massive $$ to continue to protect us as we need them to. and the US has lost many of its allies.

This will be a lesson in history books for a long time into the future.

Is the Fed keeping fuel in or out it’s inflation calculations?

As of today, and it changes a lot, no 2026 rate cuts, economist are starting to predict rate increases in 2027.
You have to remember those numbers are just interpolations of the maturity curve. It isn't really a "prediction of economists" as much as what the money in US treasuries market is showing via the yields. The two year at 3.8% seems a little high to me, but that is just an opinion.

I still think that if/when Warsh gets confirmed, we see another rate cut. Warsh wants to cut interest rates and increase run off of balance sheet. Kind of a net zero impact in the model. A Warsh Wash... LOL. The benefit is that it would cut interest expense for the Government, which Bessent wants, but it will take money out of the economy having an immediate impact on inflation. Overall probably more restrictive for economy than higher rates. Might be like pushing on a string. That's my best guess for the next 9 months.

I'm intrigued to see how the bond market is going to react to Trump leaving NATO. It's been told that if he does, those once allies that hold treasury bonds will want their money back. I don't think the coffers can afford that but, we'll see.
