6.5 Creedmoor Peak

Ive sort of got concerns about that myself.

To my knowledge its the only action thats scaled down like that. If it were a savage, regular howa 1500, etc - itd have the same size bolt lugs as a 6.5 prc.

I emailed LSI but i havent heard back.
I definitely won't have my face behind the bolt on the first shot. I imagine that pressure signs will be very obvious if it's going to be a problem.

Just heard from them, looks like a no go.

I might send it anyway, we'll see...

"We have not tested it in our rifles.
Based on Federal's claims, it should be safe.
Howa's chambers are safe beyond SAAMI spec, but we never recommend exceeding SAAMI spec.
One concern is the case is designed to expand against the chamber walls, keeping it from pushing back against the bolt. If the chamber is polished, there could be excessive force on the bolt’s lugs.
Physics dictates that higher heat and pressure will inherently accelerate throat erosion and barrel wear over time compared to standard-pressure ammo.
Will it feed and extract as well as brass? Will there be problems with reloaded brass?
Does the factory bullet meet my needs?
Trajectory is physics, the wind is voodoo. It’s easy to calculate the 200-250fps advantage in regard to bullet drop, doping the wind is the hard part.
The main advantage is when used in short barreled rifles or targets past 500 yards.
Do you want the extra recoil in a sub-five pound rifle?
I would not use it in my Superlite. "

I've seen that same response elsewhere on the web. Based on that, I feel comfortable shooting it once with my face clear of the bolt and if I need a 2x4 to open the action, I'll send my other 39 rounds down the road.

I can't see how this won't stress an action. I had a rifle bore scoped and looked over last week because I have fed it a stout load for about 25 years. mtmuley

Same or close to bolt thrust on the 6.5 creedmoor peak as what a warm loaded 300 wsm has so shouldn’t be any issues.

I’m not seeing the reason for so much hype for a couple hundred fps. What diff does that even make?

Same argument could be made for every step up in case capacity. Why not the 6.5 Grendel over the 6.5 creed? Why not the 6.5 creed instead of the 6.5 prc? Now they can have it both ways. There will be lots more peak cartridge cases in the future especially with the military pushing it.

Bolt thrust is a function of case area, pressure, and friction. So that can be true, and steel to steel has more friction than brass to steel. But Im a little skeptical of relying on friction alone to reduce that, when thats variable (oil, moisture, temp, etc) itself.

Are you sure the bolt lugs are scaled - or just the action length?
Good question. I'm not sure, I'll check.
