I can’t believe a post hasn’t been made about this today.

While the ammo won’t be available until August, releasing info about it on 06/05 is marketing genius.

Will you buy the ammo? How will it affect the 6.5 PRC? What’s your thoughts?

No, I won’t buy it. My Creedmoor is plenty of rifle for anything within the ranges I should be shooting at.

Depending on price, I’ll see how it shoots in my Howa Superlite. I don’t reload anyways so a few hundred fps for free if it groups well seems like an easy choice.

I'm actually pretty excited about this one. No need to buy a new rifle with a new chambering, and it seems to be leaning into the idea of doing more with less. I think Federal kinda read the room and made a good move by applying the technology to an existing cartridge, and picking a cartridge that is already wildly popular. Would I sell a 6.5 PRC for it? Probably not. But will this get me to actually pull my 6.5 CM out of the safe and extensively use it? Absolutely. On top of that, a factory load with a 153 gr TMK is a nice touch.

The coolest part is that from what I'm hearing you don't have to buy a special gun. Of course, there are lots of 6.5 Creedmoors out there. I think it's better marketing to just sell the ammo.

I recently got a 6.5 creedmoor a few months ago. This will be my first time trying to deer hunt in my neck of the woods in California. I like the cartridge. I’m really excited to try these for fun, however hopefully some of the lead free ones come sooner than later so I can hunt. I saw a notification button on that site for a barnes bullet. Anyone know if solo copper will be an option?

So couldn't they do the same for the PRC? I'm honestly not super knowledgeable when it comes to rifle reloading and ammunition but if they can increase velocity on the creedmoor by having a steel allow case then couldn't the PRC get even faster velocities if they used the same technology?

I don’t have a creedmoor and probably won’t but the technology is exciting. I’m assuming their plan will be to roll this out in some other legacy cartridges. A 308 flirting with 300 win velocity could be fun. Not sure 7-08 would make the cut but we can hope

Case-wise yes, that should be doable.

Without having any inside info, I suspect it’s an action issue. A standard bolt face action (30-06, 308, Creed) is less stressed than a magnum bolt face action, all else being equal. So, the standard bolt face actions have some spare strength so you can turn up the pressure on them without the same level of risk as you’d have with a magnum bolt face. Probably why the 7 Backcountry is what it is, and not a shorter fatter case.

Proof is advertising a new barrel that goes up to 80k psi. I think my 6.5 prc is going to be in need of a new barrel soon anyways I’m more excited about that than a new metal case. Supposedly the barrels will last longer also
