Maybe you both got lemons? I've always heard nothing but praise for the VW diesels. I always said if I ever get another car, I was going to seriously consider a VW diesel. I guess I'll just put another couple hundred thousand miles on my Nissan.

Isuzu used to make a little truck with a diesel, a fellow around here had one that had 300k + miles on it and he swore by it. Come to think about it International had a Scout with a Datsun (?) diesel, I had one with the 345 CI V-8, man that thing sucked gas. I might have gotted 8-9 MPG or 2 if I was locked into 4x4 or $x$ is how that should be typed. John

My twin cam 88 softail will go over 4 saloons per gallon.

I drive a full size (paid for) Ford 4wd pick up that gets around 15 mpg, however I only run about 15,000 miles per year. That equates 1000 gallons of fuel, or about $3000 per year.
I can't see shelling out $25-35,000 for a new auto that gets double the mileage, to only save $1500 per year. Plus, I like the big truck.
Now, if I was one of these guys that drives 50+ miles every day to work, I would probably think differently, and have some sort of a high mileage vehicle, probably a Honda or Toyota.
