World Cup 2026 starting today

Just wrote to my family group text:

Reminds me of an NBA All Star game. A semblance of defense played and lazy midfielders failing to support a push up or falling back.
 
Hail to the victors.

The host countries pulled it off. And perhaps the world has a fresh perspective on America and Americans.

I enjoy all sorts of sporting events. The World Cup is a sporting event divided into 105 packets of competition. All but two teams in the knockout stage end the competition with a loss. And with individual and corporate memories of camaraderie and effort, I hope that the pain of loss fades, and what remains is a deep abiding thankfulness to have participated in an amazing world event.
 
Total domination by Spain until the last 5 minutes. Was pulling for Argentina but would’ve felt bad for Spain if it went to PK’s after controlling the entire match.

Spain attacked and pressed forward and created open space while Argentina passed backwards and turned the ball over.

That said, with that many attempts you have to score. Even though they lost, player of the game is Martinez. What a stud. Most saves in a WC with a broken right hand.

End of an era.

England aren't exactly great at taking losing either. Jude Bellingham coming up from behind and hitting the smallest Argentinian on the head after the game could easily have started a brawl, but Argentina were smart enough to not get involved, and realized he just couldn't take losing.
Argentina are used to winning, so you should expect them to not take defeat well. England haven't won anything since 1966, but still have a hard time taking defeat.
England still talk about how they were cheated by the "hand of God" goal in 1986. The truth about that game in 1986 is that only losing 2-1 flattered Engand, and that several of the England players should have been sent off for the fouls on Maradona that day. In fact that was their game plan - whomever was closest to Maradona was to foul him. England spent the entire game cheating against Maradona and failed to stop him, he cheated for 1 second, but the English are still talking about that 40 years later. They take losing well.

You my friend have just shown your true colours.

Regarding Bellingham, the Argentinian didn't realize Bellingham spoke fluent Spanish, he made a racist remark and got a little slap.
