What are your 2026 Outdoor Plans

As can happen throughout the draw season; my plans have already changed . I drew a good moose tag in AK that will eliminate my time frme to hunt antelope in UT, so that will get pushed to next year. I will have to be careful not to put anything in for the first 3 weeks in September due to the amount of time this particular hunt can take. Thank goodness for an understanding supervisor since this is a pretty busy time of year at work for me. This will be my second time with this tag and I feel pretty lucky as it could easily be a once in a lifetime tag with the odds of drawing it as a unguided NR!
Hopefully I can still squeeze my WY antelope hunt in, but depends on what they say at work.

I'll apply in ID for low odds DEA. Probably won't draw anything but that's okay, we will have our first baby in the house by fall and getting away will be harder.

Points in MT and WY. I'd like to apply and go hunting but it's not in the cards this year.

I will most likely be hunting deer in northern WI this year at a family deer camp. It'll be my first time hunting with my wife's family at their cabin. I'm really looking forward to being part of a deer camp, I haven't done that in a long time.

Co deer with 26pts, help a friend in Co with 22 elk pts & hopefully get lucky and draw a wyoming tag or 2 between myself and my wife.

Last year was a restricted year because I was retiring from one job and starting another. So I was not able to apply for a lot of stuff.

Now that I’m settled I plan to make up for last year.

I’m applying for a lot of states, but unless something wild happens I can see myself using Wyoming antelope points, possibly Colorado deer points, purchase a NM land owner voucher (if I don’t draw any elk), and then hunt lots of whitetail states.

This does not include mayham that I will also run on turkeys.

Arizona told me no for elk so I’ll apply for a random wy pronghorn tag. I’m really struggling between trying for a moose tag or applying for archery elk and a mule deer tag in ID

I’ll do snow geese in ND or SD for a weekend in April.

I’d like to go fly fishing somewhere cool, maybe ID or WY over the summer.

I need to decide if I wanna go on a bird hunting trip or big game hunting trip in the fall.

Well probably not as much as I thought 3 hrs ago. A kid I have known since he was knee high to a grass hopper. I was with him when he shot his first buck. I hooked him up with a job as my assistant. I trained him. And now at 23. He is going to ditch me, give his notice and go work for a guide in Alaska. Little peckerhead I am definitely jealous of the ability to drop everything and go do this. More jealous of what he gets to do. Also very happy for him thats awesome. It does mean come this fall I will be training someone else and be less flexible. I guess I shouldn't have introduced him to Alaska and the outfitter. New hiring criteria. No hunters! No young people getting an itch. But that leaves us with gamers. No thanks. Since he is going to start out as a packer I suppose his last trip with me this fall to Alaska he can practice

Going to bring some family from Wisconsin out to Colorado for a mule deer hunt to try and get them hooked on the mountains! I'll need to be on them all summer making sure they're hitting the treadmill!

I’m not haha. Hunted there successfully two years ago. I truly feel sorry for what they are going through right now. Fires are burning really close to some of the areas I hunted. Not sure how that will affect my plans yet. May opt to burn some Montana deer points this year as a backup

My plans are pretty consistent year over year.

- MN deer opener in NE MN
- WI deer opener in NW WI
- MN muzzleloader in western MN
- out of state muzzleloader trip. Typically to the Sandhills of Nebraska but open to suggestions since that has been rough lately. Have also gone to Indiana which was fun and looking into MO for next year.

Been collecting WY antelope for a few years waiting for my son to get a little older, haven’t made it out west since 2021 and itching to go back.

i'm feeling UNlucky this year.
i'm going to get a black bear.
i'm going to get a turkey.
i'm going to draw arizona elk - if i apply for archery. still undecided (i applied for archery, still didn't draw)
i'm going to draw NM elk, and one of the exotics, probably oryx.
i'm going to draw a mountain goat tag, and keep gaining on moose and sheep
i'm going to kill a bull opening day in MT archery, and a nice whitetail or muley during the rut
i'm going to skip out on idaho elk, but will draw idaho moose
i'm going to draw points in all other states that i apply for
i'm booking my next alaska hunt. either black tail or black bear.

Most of my outdoor plans are centered around my 3 yo mustang filly. For the spring and summer that means gathering and branding cattle and a couple organized and possibly some spur of the moment trail rides. I want to teach her good habits while her mind is pliable.

Last year’s good fortune hunting means a couple new mounts to pay for and pick up for my daughter and I. (She got her first deer, a nice 3 point blacktail)

As for hunting, I should have enough points to draw a Wyoming Antelope tag in the Special draw to take my 24 year old nephew on his first hunt. May be the last Wyoming Antelope tag I apply for as I look at points requirements and costs. That will be early or mid September.

I will tag along on my father and uncles Montana whitetail hunt outside of Havre MT the week of Thanksgiving.

Of course I could conceivably draw a California Elk, Antelope or Sheep tag but no point in planning for that.

Same goes for Nevada Antelope Deer Elk and Sheep. Long shot gamble.

I’m planning to help guide a couple Tule Elk hunters in September and perhaps I can find a dead buck or bull to pack out on horseback this Fall.

I’m getting more enjoyment from having a nice camp than adding to my wall these days. Working to develop connections with up and coming young hunters to give them a chance at a well supported hunt since those high quality opportunities are getting less frequent.

Walleye are suicidal, and perch are cannibalistic during that time of year I learned.

Is it still bottom bounchers and crankbaits in Sept/Oct? I assume they are in pretty deep water by early fall and more jigging with spoons ot searchbaits? Thanks
