I think some of those guys with the new half ton diesels do get much better mileage. I still couldn't make it pencil out for me though.Yep. Can't quite wrap my head around the diesel truck thing if it isn't needed. Oh well pump it full at 6 bucks. mtmuley
Most of the diesel trucks out here are taller. mtmuleyI think some of those guys with the new half ton diesels do get much better mileage. I still couldn't make it pencil out for me though.
What’s your MPG on the 5.3L?I think some of those guys with the new half ton diesels do get much better mileage. I still couldn't make it pencil out for me though.
Off the top of my head last time I looked it said around 18. Between the initial price, added fuel expense, diesel maintenence and mostly the fact that the 3.0 diesel has significantly less towing capacity than the 5.3 isn't was a pretty easy choice for me without the tow capacity it would have been pretty close. But a half ton is pretty light for my needs as it is sometimes. It for sure pencils for some people. Just didn't for me. What are you getting for mileage? I've heard all kinds of numbers from people. What’s your MPG on the 5.3L?
I compared the fuel costs between the 6.2L and 3.0 Diesel and it wasn’t close. Diesel won easily. 6.2 was recommended high grade 95 gas. Increased MPG plus essentially same fuel price between high grade gas and diesel.

I've always felt if you need and drive a truck, fuel mileage is secondary. And I mean trucks, not Mavericks, Passports or the mid size stuff. Pick the truck you like that fits and drive it. Kinda like @mtmiller did. mtmuley@brymoore just drove back from my mom's kinda cheating because theres only 2 stop signs the whole way..

My 3/4 ton exists exclusively to get beat up on backroads and tow. At least half the miles each year are towing over 10k but even then, with only ~5k miles a year, it would take a lot of years to pencil out the fuel savings with a diesel costing over $10k more. I’m finally old enough to know it’s not a race, and I’m fine going 55 up passes.I've always felt if you need and drive a truck, fuel mileage is secondary. Half the point of an electric car is no maintenance. That point evaporates when a person gets a BMW.She said Tesla’s are chit and countered suggesting an electric BMW for her.
Why delete it? It was a true statement.$4.79 here in Ky.

Because @Nick87 doesn't want that type of thing in his thread. That's why. mtmuleyWhy delete it? It was a true statement.
