What are you guys paying for gas?

I think some of those guys with the new half ton diesels do get much better mileage. I still couldn't make it pencil out for me though.
What’s your MPG on the 5.3L?

I compared the fuel costs between the 6.2L and 3.0 Diesel and it wasn’t close. Diesel won easily. 6.2 was recommended high grade 95 gas. Increased MPG plus essentially same fuel price between high grade gas and diesel.

Off the top of my head last time I looked it said around 18. Between the initial price, added fuel expense, diesel maintenence and mostly the fact that the 3.0 diesel has significantly less towing capacity than the 5.3 isn't was a pretty easy choice for me without the tow capacity it would have been pretty close. But a half ton is pretty light for my needs as it is sometimes. It for sure pencils for some people. Just didn't for me. What are you getting for mileage? I've heard all kinds of numbers from people.

3/4 ton diesels are a dime a dozen around here. The vast majority have never pulled a trailer. Sure adds to demand for diesel though. Seems as many on the road as usual so I guess it’s not hurting yet.

12.6 mph since it was new 26 years and 290,000 miles ago for the brown f350.
22-25 mpg for old blue 30 years old and 318,000 trouble free miles although I did replace the funky ass OEM clutch around 50 k.
The old blue has never had the covers lifted but it did need a water pump a while back. The brown one needed a auto trans at 200k. I did put another bed on it as I had beaten the original ones floor to death. The blue one has a 4k dump on it.

I feed two one ton diesel trucks. One is a 05 that is a knock around truck, that tows horses locally, little else. The other is a 17, that carries a slide in camper and hauls horses for hunting trips, and field trials. Both get 20+mpg, if they aren't pulling a horse trailer or carrying a camper. Between the two of them, they get driven about 12k miles a year.

It does not take long to like a diesel if you are pulling a horse trailer. If not, a gasoline fueled vehicle is less to fuss about.

@brymoore just drove back from my mom's kinda cheating because theres only 2 stop signs the whole way..

I've always felt if you need and drive a truck, fuel mileage is secondary. And I mean trucks, not Mavericks, Passports or the mid size stuff. Pick the truck you like that fits and drive it. Kinda like @mtmiller did. mtmuley

My 3/4 ton exists exclusively to get beat up on backroads and tow. At least half the miles each year are towing over 10k but even then, with only ~5k miles a year, it would take a lot of years to pencil out the fuel savings with a diesel costing over $10k more. I’m finally old enough to know it’s not a race, and I’m fine going 55 up passes.
