About a decade ago my wife and I were outside doing yard work in the spring. A car stops at the end of our driveway, which was a little over 300’ to the house, and a little girl gets out and walks up it.

She tries selling us Girl Scout cookies and I cut her off and say, “sorry kid we’re strapped.” She walk back to the car dejected. My wife still quotes that and laughs hysterically to this day.

I’m not even sure where it came from.

You gave that little girl a very valuable lesson in rejection.

Many people are too scared of little girls to say no.

My daughter was in Girl Scouts. Sold cookies. One year she wanted to sell the most to win a prize. She didn't. The next year she was focused and got it done. Sold the most volume. I think it helped her build character. I ate a lot of thin mints. mtmuley

Combination of charitable giving and false scarcity.

The hunting world eats up MKC "drops" like there are no other options when retailers sell knives every single day.

But I agree with you on the quality.

The boy scouts here sling flavored popcorn. Neither my wife or I really like it so I just kick them $20 when I go by.

Spent years buying it and letting it go bad in the pantry before I concluded the donation was the better method.

I like it when the kids are super competitive and you can make them fight each other for the sale.

More hardcore than I am. I don't buy things unless the kid can explain their organization and what they'll use the money for. Parents aren't allowed to talk.

Girl scouts had a table set up in the lobby of the farm store. I told the 4 girls to pick each pick out a box. The boxes were $6 each. Mom had to whip out the phone to calculate the total.

There was a table at each entrance to the Wally World last week. I went in one door and said “hi, I’m sorry I don’t have any cash. I’ll have some when I come back”to the girls on the way in. There mom answered and they just sat there on their phones. I checked out and left through the other door. The girls at the other door were more personable and actually said something in return. I bought 3 boxes from them.

My daughter would have had you whipping out the checkbook. All on her own. Except she couldn't drive. Door to door. No sitting on her ass in front of a store. I was proud of her. Still am. mtmuley

I remember a few years ago a Girl Scout broke the record for cookies sold because she set up in front of the dispensary but the Girl Scouts got mad and disqualified her from anything she would have earned. But, I’m sure they didn’t ask for the cookies to be returned!
