Tundra or Another F-150

That doesn't make sense. First position from off is running lights. 2nd position is headlights and 3rd is auto (hence the A).
Yes, auto on and off. Not just auto dim when meeting another car. That’s controlled by the stalk and can easily be turned on or off even if the lights are set to auto.

So what I’m saying is it’s easier for me to just flick the stalk than have to set the lights to manual on off when you want to turn off the auto dim.
My vehicles default to auto lights at startup. I prefer leaving it there. I drive 4 different vehicles that have the light switch in 4 different places but the headlight stalk is the same.

When I posted I was mostly thinking of my Dad who recently bought his first vehicle with auto lights. He didn’t know he could turn off the auto dim function, as well as several other new things. Maybe some vehicles don’t have the ability to turn off the auto dim with the stalk when the switch is in the auto setting, IDK. Some let you disable permanently in the settings function.

Gotcha. Understand it now.

It's also hard to talk in general terms when every vehicle seems to be different. Toyota/Lexus is going away from the auto start stop engine function on some models. I guess it's no longer a requirement for the US market. Maybe it didn't really save any gas.

Also, on some of the newer Toyota/Lexus, the auto dim headlight function works in both the auto and manual light switch modes. The end of my headlight stalk has a switch to turn off the auto dim if I don't want it on, or I can go into my settings and turn the function off altogether. I can even adjust the sensitivity of the camera that decides when to turn the brights back on, but have never messed with it.
