Thinking about getting a pellet grill

I use mine all the time for when I want to smoke a piece of meat and then sear it to finish it off (tri tip, corned beef, pork chop, etc). I tend to like steaks off charcoal or a cast iron better. I feel you get a better sear.

I have the camp chef woodwind, I would say its in the budget side of things, side burner, large pellet hopper. Had for about 4 years now and only thing gone bad was one temp probe, pretty simple cheap fix and pretty sure was my own fault from flame up had smoking some ducks. Besides that i love the smoke it gives off and the adjustability to smoke or grill.

IMO don't do it...you will spend more money on pellets than the grill costs in a very short time. Gas grill and electric smoker for me.

I buy pellets that are $10/bag for like 30-40lbs at Rural King. That gets me like 30+ hours of cooking.

Right, so now put a pork butt on the grill and you need 4 bags for a 12 hour cook....or did you miss type something. I did a lot of research, almost bought one and then looked at the costs and what others were saying. Stayed with gas.

I'll wait for the thread in 1-2 years that say holy sh!t this pellet grill costs too much and I"m back to gas...lol
Changing over from my stick burner. Never had or will use a gas unit. Just losing my wood supply and once my stock is gone I'm probably out of luck for any more. No access to any timber anymore.

Typo, fixed. I get about an hour per pound at smoking temps.
