I am not sure how she gets so lucky....... I mean first she lands a prize stud like myself, and then it seems like all she has to do is wander out in the woods for an hour each year, fire on shot and kill a bigger buck than I do. Sometimes life just isn't fair I guess.
Took the family out for an afternoon hunt yesterday and had a blast. We started out by looking for some turkeys. My eight year old little girl has it out bad for them ol' toms and she was pretty dissapointed when we had to let the half dozen gobblers we found go, because they were on the wrong side of the fence. Her and I will have to have a "Daddy Date" next week and go even the score.
So after striking out on the thunder chickens, we decided to spend the last hour and a half of light trying to punch Jessica's deer tag. With some weather blowing in, the deer were out in force and it didn't take long for Jess and I to slip thorugh a little sliver of trees to get set up 200 yards above a big bunch of deer. We spent a few minutes sorting through teh 6 or 7 bucks that were in the group. I was trying to talk her into smoking a nice looking 20" 3x4 when Big Daddy came bulldozing into the group, sending does running for fear of loosing their purity and virtue. Big Daddy had love on the mind, and was all swollen up and stiff legging it from doe to doe, looking for a willing partner. No question about it, he was the boss.
We had to readjust the and scoot over about 3 feet to get a good shooting window through the trees, and some does must have picked us off. All the ladies went on alert and a couple started blowing at us, so we knew we had to make it happen fast. Problem was that Big Daddy was facing straight away. Jess covered him with the crosshairs and when he turned to look and see what was going on, she sent a 140 grains of pain his way with her pink rifle. He didn't make it 40 yards and he was down.
I am not sure who was more excited, Jessica or Cassidy! It sure was fun to be able to share such a fun hunt with them and add yet another big buck to Jessica's wall.
I am headed out with two buddies for the next 4 days to see if we can't find a couple "Big Daddy's" of our own. Stay tuned.... I'll keep you posted.
