A month after the surgery, I got a notice from the insurance company saying they were denying the claim because it utilized 3-D printing which they considered to be experimental. Quick call to the surgeon’s office and they got it all resolved with BCBS.

Both boys had there tonsils out. First one cost us about $2,500 to $3,000 iirc. In the meantime we switched to a different plan second boys tonsils same surgeon same everything. $100 co pay. Wife and I both looked at each other like that can't be right. Should've switched plans years ago. We use a plan where whoever you see has to be in network and I think that scares a lot of people off. We've had zero issues with that aspect. No more deductible just a co-pay. Saves us thousands every year.

Bingo! Called the insurance co. and this was the problem. Confirmed with them that if a different coding was provided then it would be covered. Called the billing department for the hospital and explained things and they said they would send it for a review because of my initial symptoms for the visit and go from there. Everything is on hold until they make a decision. Sounds good for now! Fingers crossed.
