The official 2025 Wyoming elk hunt for Dave N thread.

It may be as simple as the doctor needing to resubmit with a different code. My wife has had intestinal disease for years and my son was in a bad accident a few years ago. We have received many bills just like you did. A phone call to the doctor and sometimes to the insurance company and it was taken care of once resubmitted. Don’t worry about it, it will work out.

My ankle replacement was $225,000. Surgeon’s office called insurance company weeks before the surgery so they could give me an “out of pocket” estimate. Fortunately, the insurance company came back with “it’s all covered except for $25 co-pay”. A month after the surgery, I got a notice from the insurance company saying they were denying the claim because it utilized 3-D printing which they considered to be experimental. Quick call to the surgeon’s office and they got it all resolved with BCBS.

Both boys had there tonsils out. First one cost us about $2,500 to $3,000 iirc. In the meantime we switched to a different plan second boys tonsils same surgeon same everything. $100 co pay. Wife and I both looked at each other like that can't be right. Should've switched plans years ago. We use a plan where whoever you see has to be in network and I think that scares a lot of people off. We've had zero issues with that aspect. No more deductible just a co-pay. Saves us thousands every year.

@Dave N rubbing alongside your carotid artery can stimulate your Vagus nerve and perhaps slow an over pacing ticker down. Or sticking your whole face into an ice bath can do it too.

Bingo! Called the insurance co. and this was the problem. Confirmed with them that if a different coding was provided then it would be covered. Called the billing department for the hospital and explained things and they said they would send it for a review because of my initial symptoms for the visit and go from there. Everything is on hold until they make a decision. Sounds good for now! Fingers crossed.

Good deal.

Got everything run through and accepted now except for one charge of $50 being denied. I can relax now. Sort of. January started all over again and I just had an ultrasound of my thyroid where they gave an estimate of my share to be just under $900. That lead to needing a biopsy in a few weeks because they found several nodules on it. One side is swollen and I can feel the difference with my fingers. It also is affecting my voice, making me sound hoarse. Not sure how that affects anything but I am a little nervous about it and want to get it figured out soon. No clue on my cost for that. Yippee. So far without the biopsy I'll be around $3500 out of pocket into it and no real answer to a cause of what happened in Wyoming. At this point I'm pretty much chalking it up to a combination of excitement, exertion, less oxygen to recover with at elevation, not being recovered from whatever I had last year with the coughing, and just plain not being in as good of shape as I needed to be. 🤷‍♂️ Whatever. I got my ass handed to me. Felt fine once we got back to town but still started breathing harder just by doing simple things, even after getting home. It's gotten better over time so the idea of some kind of viral infection makes sense. Too late to test for any of that. So, if nothing else, I'm on cholesterol meds now and found out my PSA number is still low. My thyroid deal does seem to be a problem. Not sure how it affects anything but I guess I'll find out more as I go. I even started a GLP-1 and am losing some weight to help myself out. I've had this belly for many years and even though my weight hasn't really changed in the last 10 years it's time to get rid of what I can.

Now you know about as much as I do. I tried, I failed, I figure I'm just better off keeping my ass out of the mountains. I'll see how much weight I can get rid of to get healthier but still think I'm just done with any hunting out west. I'll spend my time with my granddaughter and be happy with that. This Illinois deer hunter just isn't cut out for the hard stuff. I don't read topo maps to understand what I need to, don't hit the gym to act like a goat, don't shoot hundreds of rounds each year to stay in "shooting shape". And I'm good with it. I've put plenty of deer in the freezer in my lifetime and had many great adventures in other places. I can at least say "I tried" which is more than a lot of others can say. Life goes on. Thanks for the help and the well wishes.

Dave, You’re in my prayers. No need to close doors. It sounds like you have a great plan. It sounds like you’re living. Do your best, and enjoy your grand daughter. Maybe she’ll want to pronghorn hunt someday… Aging sucks, but it sounds like you’ll make it suck less. God Bless
