The official 2025 Wyoming elk hunt for Dave N thread.

Got in some decent morning glassing. Found some elk! Planning to hike a little this afternoon and do an evening glass. Got some rain last night and found some slick spots that are better navigated when things aren't so wet. Will take a look at the weather, more maps, and start hatching plans. One more glassing session tonight.

Note the difference between the trucks.

Think we have a good plan for the morning. Decided to hike up where we saw the moose and take a closer look at the ridge we saw elk on. I was kind of leaning this direction because of a 2 track heading in that would make it easier to hike. Well, I made it. Finally! My legs and knees were good but I had to stop and catch my breath a few times. Didn't take much to recharge, I just couldn't climb and breathe at the same time! Got to the spot where the moose were and sat down to glass. Elk up on the top! Big mulie buck got up at 40 yards and trots off. Decided that it was a good spot for the old and crippled guys to post up and watch for any action and Tim the Olympic runner could go higher and work the ridgeline and upper areas where they were coming from. Anything we spotted from our sitting area could be moved on if needed.

The bad news. I climbed without any pain issues. Part of the trail was muddy and slick but doable. Coming back DOWN however I had a problem. Stepping forward with my left foot, my right knee started quivering while bending to move forward. It was having a hard time holding my weight back when bent. I don't know about carrying out weight on top of that. Tim and Greg said not to worry, we'll get things out regardless, but I don't like the idea of not doing my share. I'll worry about that if I actually get one down.

@Addicting should be showing up any time now and we'll be having my chili tonight. I believe it was mentioned about a bunch of old guys smelling our farts? Here we go! :ROFLMAO:

Dave, I can GUARANTEE that everybody is there with the intention of helping out cheerfully. There are times that ALL of us can't do what we would like and good people come through for us......I am sure you have done MORE than your share of "coming through" for others. I just got back from goat hunting with no personal tags and it was one of the most enjoyable hunts I have had, especially packing out meat for our more senior companion. You just worry about the shooting!! ;)

Ok that looks great . However , chili , the night before opening day , when you’ll be out hiking and hunting and who knows what that will entail , chili sounds like an awful choice . Tonight should have been a steak or burger or tacos or anything but chili …. lol , good luck Dave , aim small miss small

The chili gives you small rocket boosts in the morning as you hike uphill. Its the perfect choice of dinner!
