The official 2025 Wyoming elk hunt for Dave N thread.

This motel needs to be blown up and paved over! I would have been better off sleeping in the tub! The noise is just horrible. I thought turning the heat on would drown it out. That just sounded like it was going to come off the wall. If this was our choice in Lander Tony would have shot ME instead of his antelope. I'm fairly easy going but I'm going to let the front desk have it when I check out. Another 265 miles to go and I'm still exhausted.

Some hotels leave a lot to be desired. Thats for sure.

LOL, like they have not heard it before and often.

Some lessons learned from this trip.

The Maverick mother of all blowout burritos has a 45 minute fuse before you need a restroom.

Dave is not allowed to choose hotels.

Greg’s “tarter” sauce is gag worthy, even just to dump it out.

Carry on
YMMV on the MOAB burrito. I had one last time I was out here and don't recall needing a toilet soon after!

Really quick. I got home about an hour and a half ago. Stopped by my dad's house to talk and pick up my mail. Need to unload and get things cleaned up. I'll run down to my daughter's house when she gets home from work and see my granddaughter for a bit. I'll try to write a wrap up tonight if I can stay awake long enough! Should sleep like a baby, I hope!

Congrats Dave on the good hunt. I have entire seasons that I have not seen what I was hunting. Hunting and having fun while doing it is the reason most of us have all started hunting. My sons just reminded me of this important fact this year. We came back empty handed from both hunts but they are my favorite hunts so far this year and reminded me to think less about the outcome and just enjoy the process and exploration. I am proud of you for going on such a grand adventure and taking us along. So many people live their lives on the sideline, you cannot be accused of this good sir. Bravo! Thank you for the stories!

I didn't do bad in Lander! This last one, though.
Sounds like that one and the accompanying companionship could been rented by the hour....
It actually wasn't that bad of a place. Clean, remodeled. It just had a crappy window that wouldn't seal and whistled in the wind and let lots of noise in. Plus the heater banging when it kicked on. At least the elevator worked! Hell, the room didn't have a clock. I think that's a first for me.

I think we (hunt talkers) should chip in some $ and get Dave to apply for a bunch of cow tags. Maybe buzz or someone from Wyoming can point us in the right direction. Maybe someone else in Montana , Colorado etc… let’s get this guy a late season cow tags somewhere he can have a legit chance. Not taking anything away from what addicting and others just did for him you guys were awesome

Everything unpacked. Got a couple loads of laundry done and visited with my parents. Went down and gave my grandbaby a big hug and told my story to my daughter. Made her tear up at what I described going through. She DID say yum about the new flavor ice cream I brought her! Made a quick dinner and got some paperwork and bills caught up on. Too tired to write up my story and honestly not quite sure yet how to tell it. I think that even keeping it brief will still be a long one.

Just so you know. Sunday night I made a doctor appointment to see if I have anything going on. They called Monday morning asking about the symptoms I briefly gave online. I told the nurse I was in Wyoming and anything she said was going in one ear and out the other. No way in hell I was going to an ER halfway across the country! Yeah, I'm still stubborn. And stupid.

Aside from a plastic end cap on a step bar and some scrapes that might rub out, my truck did awesome in my mind. Total miles driven was 2842 and I averaged 20.3 MPG there and back including a trip up on the ridge driving the 2 tracks. I'll take it! Left it outside so maybe the rain will loosen up some of the mud before I can get it cleaned off.

Don't. All I'll say right now. Thanks, though!

Been fun to read this thread after getting home from a couple weeks on the road. I wish Dave had got an elk, but only about 1 in 7 hunters get an elk each season. To get one on your first elk hunt would be far outside the norm.

To all the crew who gave of their time, money, points, and effort, a big thanks. This hunt exemplifies what hunting means to me, tags filled or not - special times, spent in special places, with special people.

Thanks for taking the time to post the details here on Hunt Talk.
