Dawn in early March found us on the Axtell Anceney dry but rough rutted road usually snow-clogged and mud-bogged this time of year. We travelled over the hills to the Madison Valley in search of pronghorn antelope, but found many wonderful sights.






Elk herds, each numbering in the hundreds, winter in the Madison Valley.

My oldest walking the dog in national forest near our house.

Walking our local sea islands near Edisto SC, I came across several piles of these, each scattered within a few square yards of each other. I know what they are and how they formed. Each is cone-shaped and extremely dense. Any guesses?



A month later I found one of the trees that these grow on. Not quite ready for harvest.
