Ok folks - trying not to open a huge can of worms here, but I need some advice. I surprised my wife with a Tikka T3 Lite stainless in 270 for Christmas this year and she was psyched. We're in Montana, hunting deer and elk primarily. Now her birthday is coming up in July and I've been planning to get her a scope for the rifle (which I plan to mount myself - a first, but that's another topic). I know I know, spend a lot of $$ on good glass and I won't regret it. Well, I'm having a really hard time justifying more than around $300 on a scope, knowing that's about what we have into the scope she's been using for years (a Leupold 3-9 x 50mm). She doesn't need or want any fancy features like turrets, huge magnification, etc. 200yds would be a long shot for her, and I don't think she'd even consider shooting anything further than 300. Probably the most important feature is keeping it light weight, accurate and rock solid.
I've been looking at Vortex, Leupold, and Nikon. Like I said, $300 is my target, but could be swayed to spend a little more if there was a good reason to (other than, the glass is so much better...)
I appreciate all of the shared wisdom this forum makes possible. Have a great weekend!
