Between a broken medical system and social media I think lies a lot of the answers. I’m almost 3 months into trying to get a c pap. Seems like not a big deal try sleeping maybe 4 hours a night for a year it has an effect. Most of us on here realize how proped up/fake the social media hunting is imagine if hunting wasn’t your thing. Guy could be a gym rat and all he sees is “natural” guys juiced out of their minds or some rich kid running around in dad’s planes and cars. The medical stuff I’ve had to deal with lately the doctor tried had to diagnose me with depression. He was shocked that I didn’t have any of the “symptoms” for it.
I will assume there is an insurance approval problem. For God's sake, if you need a c-pap machine, get a prescription and buy it yourself. Borrow the money if you don't have it. Sleep apnea is a real thing. I wasn't sleeping over 1 or 2hours a night. Developed serious A-fib. Now I'm addicted to the machine and wake up in less than 10 minutes if I doze off without it. You will die of heart disease much sooner than otherwise. My father died of A-fib and heart failure when there was no such thing as a c-pap. He would quit snoring for over a minute and a half and then wake up.

Not insurance at all. I couldn’t get in to see the doctor once I did she looked at the test I had took said I have it severely and rescheduled another test which is the same test according to her. It was gonna be 8 weeks for that test I got a little upset and we moved it to 5 weeks out. But even after taking the other test who knows when I’ll be fitted for one.

The justifications for killing Charlie that I've seen posted, which have been fairly disturbing coming from people I know personally, who in person seem like decent, peaceful people and who I know are either mentally or physically incapable - or both - of committing violence or defending themselves from violence, seem to be that it is okay because Charlie was radicalizing young people and poisoning the minds of the next generation. I don't know what it is about being a physically weak and harmless man that pushes one toward the part of leftism that condones violence. It is a very weird position to take, to support something that would be your demise if it ever came to be on a broader scale.
I am no Charlie Kirk expert, but he seems like a normal guy from like 2016. His religious beliefs or beliefs on immigration, guns, taxes etc are mainstream conservative ideas. He's not some fringe extremist pushing the limits of free speech (not that there should be many) and pushing young people toward the weird parts of conservatism found in the far-right wing where anti-semitism, bigotry and misogyny exist. Many of us are probably much further right than Charlie on many issues. I probably am on gun regulations and taxes.
The only difference between Charlie Kirk and many on here, is that he's better spoken than you and used that talent to make a living.

Seems every day on HT one shakes his head at the tangential personal meanderings, wondering how a thread about a horrific, tragic fatal shooting of a national figure can suddenly morph into a discussion of C-Pap, medical insurance shortfalls, and difficulty in scheduling health care. ???

My point more of it is that I’ve been fighting to help myself. I see how we can end up with the amount of mentally sick/ depressed people that cause these issues. When you can’t get taken care of for something as simple as a c pap what chance do we have of treating something as complicated as mental health. The entire system is broke and these incidents are the result.

have you ever even once had a conversation about anything in real life?

Yesterday when this happened CNN first reported that one of Charlie’s fans must have fired a gun in excitement from the crowd and hit him. ALL new outlets should be held accountable for what they put out to the public. I hope that statement increased his widows net worth by a billion dollars. It’s ridiculous to me that any major networks should need to be fact checked but if that was a thing we wouldn’t have any new networks
That was bad but I think at least that MSNBC anchor got fired.

Too bad we couldn’t fire Mike Lee for saying Melissa Hortman was killed by an assassin sent by Tim Walz.

It starts at the home. Shitbag parents that don't raise their kids create this. Cars aren't responsible for car wrecks, forks aren't responsible for making people fat! I've never seen a gun walk itself into a bank and rob it? It's a people problem. People need to learn to deal with stress, anxiety, depression etc. Everybody has it. It's how you deal with it that makes the difference. Being hopped up on medication isn't the answer.
I get your point that bad parenting can contribute to bad actions by young people, but there are a lot of excellent parents who have been subject to tragedies that had nothing to do with the quality of parenting. I completely agree with those who have pointed out this fact in response to your post. Over simplification is the domain of the internet and social media, and this site is a social media site.

That said, I've never watched or listened to Charlie Kirk. I had to ask who he was, and then was reminded he was giving Mike Lee some cover during the public debates this summer. As much as I disagree with Mike Lee, the fact that anyones life is in danger for having opposing opinions should concern all of us, and it is a good thing that so many here are expressing this concern.

I have some people who I know I disagree with, yet I intentionally meet them for coffee or lunch, as they force my mind to think about things that would not happen in my daily echo chamber. I look forward to these meetings, as every single time I have had my views challenged, which has made me more interested in where my own biases originate.

I am very concerned that we have reached a point where expression of opposite views endangers people's lives, their health, their families, and their careers. Are we really that weak and insecure that we cannot accept opposing views and try to understand those perspectives? Are we so fragile that we view opposing views as threatening? Do we need to be "protected" from any words or ideas that might be different than our own?

In the last year I've listened to a really interesting book by Jonathan Haidt, Coddling of the American Mind. In that book, he almost explains how people who have been coddled and protected, to the point that they struggle to cope with environments where opposing thoughts are expressed. He examines that "cancel culture" on US campuses from 2015-2018. He goes into deep discussion as to how academia, which he is a part of, has failed the concept of free speech by protesting/blacklisting any speakers on campuses who have viewpoints that might be "offensive." Now, offensive is considered "harmful" rather than thought provoking.

Very sad to see this. My prayers go to his family and those who were close to him.

Man, it was tough to sleep last night. My friend sent me that video yesterday with no context or warning. I’m not easily shook up by things I see on the internet but that really disturbed me. Gunned down for having discussions with people. Insane.

I think I disagree with Charlie Kirk on just about everything politically, aside from maybe his stance on 2A. I believe I remember him breaking with Mike Lee on public lands as well. For some reason, this hit me pretty hard and I was on edge all afternoon yesterday. Likely because we are both in our 30s and have kids of similar ages. I started to think about what it would be like for my family if I were all of a sudden gone and what it would be like for myself and my kids if my wife were all of a sudden gone. I just can't imagine what his family is going through. RIP

I am going to go back in time, as a second grader in Ft. Worth, TX we had been allowed to go into the auditorium and watch a small screen TV of President Kennedy in Dallas. We heard about Kennedy being shot, but didn't know what had truly happened until a young girl with tears in her eyes stopped at our door and stated "President Kennedy has died." We had no idea what that truly meant at that young age. Soon Mothers were picking up there kids early and I really didn't know what this event would mean to all of us as we went forward.
I will tell you that Kennedy's death, 9-11 and yesterday the murder of a young man of 31 that I only heard and saw on YouTube or on TV upset me deeply. I saw a young person that I have outlived 3 times over, with a love of Christ and of his young Family. That same feeling of the unknown crept into my mind. How do we come to reason that there is no other solution for a difference of opinion than to kill instead of talking and stating you own thoughts. We have people sitting as Judges who don't even have Law Degrees passing judgements or I should say are not passing judgements. We have DAs doing the same. The beautiful young lady who was stabbed by a thug who the system had let go 18 times!!! And what does it say about our country when 5 people walked by as she bled out? We are well past a come to Jesus meeting right now in this country.

Agreed! I slept terrible last night after seeing the video. Can’t get the sadness out of my mind of his wife and kids waking up to him gone!

Not sure who pulled the trigger. Not sure what the shooter had for breakfast or if they are even political. Might be. Might be like the Vegas shooter and we never quite know.

I prefer hunting forum topics here at this website.

I can soak up plenty of political topics over at the news websites. Sports topics over at ESPN. Shotgunning of opinions on everything over at Reddit.

Can threads like this that have zero to do with the concept of "On Your Own Adventures" be placed in a separate sub-forum which is sandboxed so does not spill into the "New Posts" listing of active threads? Plenty of places to cheer on your political team in an echo chamber no matter what political team you like to cheer on. Pushing actual hunting threads over to Page 2 is not helpful.
here's an idea - if you see a thread you don't care to look at, just don't look at it. pretty simple.

My youngest son txt me said he watched it , my brother txt me said he saw it , they both said the same thing that it was bad , some people at work said they watched it , I refused to watch his last moment when I herd it was going around , I’ve seen enough bad bullet wounds on animals I’ve harvested didn’t wanna see one on a human being.

I just wanted my last memory of him was the one they showed on the news of him smiling, laughing and interacting with the people who showed up to his event as he was tossing merch to the crowd.

As for my brother he’s a 18 year special forces combat vet saw lots death up close, dosent affect him they way it does most , as for my son his generation, he’s 22 just graduated college few months ago , they have grown up seeing real life on their phone …..

Seeing the video or not seeing the video, it is equally terrible if you watch or don't watch. Like some others have said I didn't know who he was but it seemed like he doing something that he was passionate about and stood up for what he believed in. Which is a stretch for some people nowadays and people search sometimes their entire life for meaning and to find something they're passionate about. After seeing the video without warning, I refused to get on facebook because everyone starts talking about their opinions between the man's beliefs, guns and so on. Whatever happened to being a human being and caring for others. That is more troubling to me than actually seeing the video itself. Never should happen, he was a man that had a family and was a son of someone.

I've been watching Charlie Kirk off and on for a number of years. He was saying what most of us young American patriots were thinking but either didn't have the ability or courage to adequately articulate. I have seen a shift in his presentation/tone over the years. As his faith and family became more of the centerpiece, he would leverage that point of view to help articulate his perspective on an issue. I'm thankful for his courage to stand up for what he believed in and give young Americans a perspective that was often counter to what the main stream media was selling. I don't know how to explain the shift in society I've personally witnessed over my short 35 years on this earth, but something happened and it became less accepted to believe in core biblical principles. We've allowed society to shape our moral foundation and if you don't conform to it you are on the outside. I was sitting at the gas station about a week ago and had this random thought about who would be the next leader for the GOP. I remember thinking about Charlie and the shift I've noticed in him over the years. I thought he was on a trajectory to win the minds of a lot of Americans.

I think we went wrong when we started down the path of identity politics. Why are we trying to force the 99% to be accepting of the 1% and levering emotional response on controversial issues to build a larger camp. How much time are we wasting arguing about topics that impact less than 1% of the population? We should be calling a spade a spade, helping those around us and getting people the help they need. If we can't agree on what a mental illness is, then how can we begin to treat it?

RIP Charlie, a true patriot that wasn't afraid to go in the lions den.
