RIP Charlie Kirk

I am among those on HT most opposed to Mr. Kirk's expressed political views. I am far more opposed to intimidation, violence and assassination. The politics of fearmongering, however effective they may be, come at a very high price and risk to our democracy. Any who would celebrate such violence reveal themselves as the antithesis of human rights advocates. RIP to Mr. Kirk, condolences to his loved ones and supporters. If this is the meaning of 'getting western,' we can do without it. At Evergreen CO high school today an active shooter had 3 student victims. Latest info is 3 students in hospital, critical condition, one is the shooter.

I made mistake and saw the video. Don't.

Pray for Charlie. Pray for his family. Pray for our country. I am old. I have children and grandchildren. WTH do they have to look forward to in this country? Debate and discord has become need for violence. We all need to step back and realize disagreement is OK. We need to learn to accept different view points. You don't have to "win" a debate at any cost.

A young man, loving husband and father is dead from someone who cannot accept a different view point in all likelihood.

Totally senseless IMO.
God bless.

It’s kinda terrifying after reading a lot of commentary already that there are going to be a lot of kids going home to their parents celebrating this and think that they should wish death on anyone with a differing opinion and be happy about it. If you want to have any faith in humanity, I’d recommend not reading comments on a lot of articles about today’s event. I know I won’t be anymore.

I absolutely cannot stand the guy. Nails on the chalkboard, both hands.

I never wished anything bad would befall him. The ugliness of cheering on violence is far more disturbing to me than the assassination itself.

I will just assume he died doing what he really believed in.

I see a lot of posts making this about the evil of the left, but I don’t think you can separate this from the broader picture of the mental health crisis and performative violence in our country. Someone who is mentally well does not murder someone they disagree with. Full stop. Just like someone who is mentally well doesn’t go into a school and kill kids. There has to be more action to address this, not just thoughts and prayers. We can’t just accept that this goes along with owning guns.

I watched the video posted above in this thread.

Never heard of him until today.

Had I ever come across one of his videos prior to this, I would have likely moved on for the reasons you stated above.

What the assassin did was absolutely despicable.

Agree that anyone celebrating it is even worse than the assassination itself.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible

I’ve certainly seen some videos before and usually am not too bothered. I’ve been tempted to take a look, but when the cesspools of reddit - where any and every video known to man can be found - are saying it’s among the most disturbing and sickening things they’ve ever seen and they wish they never watched it, I’m gonna take the advice and echo sentiment. What I’ve read paints an awful enough picture.

But on the other hand, I do wonder if people need to see it to help them wake the #*^@#* up; this cannot be the type of country we want where these are the solutions we seek to the gripes we have.

From what I can tell there are those cheering this on and individuals calling for violent retribution. Sickening on both fronts.

Something, multiple things, about this is deeply unsettling. I sure pray this is an opportunity to lay down the proverbial and, unfortunately, literal arms and seek a political deescalation in this country.

The reason it’s so unsettling is I’m expecting the exact opposite. Today is not a good day.

I know it’s been said in here already, but I really want to reiterate that the video should not be sought out. I watched it and experienced what can only be described as an intense anxiety, which videos online generally do not inspire in me.

The only people who should watch the video are those cheering right now.
