FEDERAL OFFICIALS REOPEN PUBLIC COMMENT ON WOLF DELISTING

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has reopened the public comment period on its proposal to delist the gray wolf in the northern Rocky Mountains. The comment deadline is Nov. 28.
USFWS is asking the public to provide comments on the 2007 proposal to delist wolves. In July, the U.S. District Court in Missoula issued an order immediately reinstating Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in the northern Rockies. In September, USFWS sought and was allowed to vacate its delisting rule by the court, which led to USFWS reopening the public comment period on the delisting proposal.
The area affected includes all of Montana, Idaho and Wyoming--and parts of Washington, Oregon and Utah. The USFWS said it is committed to wolf conservation in the northern Rocky Mountains and that it will continue to work with the states to advance wolf recovery.
Comments on the proposed delisting can be submitted via the Federal eRulemaking Portal at www.regulations.gov; or sent through mail to: Public Comments Processing; Attn: RIN 1018-Au53; Division of Policy and Directives Management; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 4401 N. Fairfax Dr., Suite 222; Arlington, VA 22203.
