Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

It has dipped before and gone back up. Eventually, it will make a downward trend, making borrowing more and more expensive, accelerating the issue.

When faced with cutting entitlements or raising taxes, Americans will first demand a complete disposal of undeveloped federal public lands - anything that is not a designated as a park, monument, military installation, or wilderness.

We are behind the 8-ball to make federal lands profitable as the only escape from disposal. Reforming APA (nonprofits suing federal government free of charge), hard rock mineral royalties, AUM, etc. might need to be the highest priority for hunters, at least when the political environment is more conducive to making any kind of meaningful change.
No.

Granted it's a non starter with the current administration...but at least with forested public lands there IS monetary value in the form of carbon credits. Markets aren't quite there yet but they will come...and unlike other solutions which are mining...literally or through removal that can never be replaced or taken 100s of years to do so...they can be a continual source of income.

New Reuters poll supports what I see--more and more Trump voters are not happy with him, and even less happy with his economic performance. Seeing concern in economic reports from huge retailers already. Growth expectations dashed, plans to cut production and employees underway. Wall Street regulators are seeing huge job cuts--if you thought there were problems there already watch out for what's coming.

I think the biggest danger on public lands is what Trump is actually really good at--throwing so much sh#t out there that peoples heads spin and don't or can't hone in on any one problem. That and his ability to keep convincing people that he's not doing what he actually is doing--and that is well underway.

Need to keep the issue in front of people and be aggressive about it.

What scares me is there is no one willing to articulate it. I haven't seen one Democrat even mention the sale. The only thing they scream about is cuts to Medicaid. Same playbook of fear the other side used to get in office (but they suck at it). The only way this bill fails is if the deficit hawks kill it for not cutting Medicaid enough. Oh, the irony! It will be interesting to watch Simpson try to explain his way out of a Yes vote. Zinke can probably get by with a 'No' because he is considered a hawk and there is no way this thing comes out balanced.

Public lands are dead man walking because everyone wants the "other guy" to take the pain. It's really similar to any Montana mule deer thread. :ROFLMAO:
Thats because democrats want to dispose of a majority of public lands aslo they just don't have the huevos to say it.

Never heard a rank and file D advocate for that. Sure there are some around urban centers that would use public land for housing in a heartbeat, but I've never heard the words come out of the mouth of someone left of center that they want to dispose of public lands.

On the other hand, I can't count how many right of center people have told me "the federal government was never supposed to own land", and it is included in one party platform...

Please don’t interject with facts.

I think it's mixed and you hit on what I see--SOME urban dems are not helpful to public land concerns. On the other hand, right now if I had to pick the side more concerned about public lands and least inclined to treat them as their personal money maker or get rid of them--that would be dominated heavily by Dems. And some of the best advocates I have seen are urban dems.

All that said my long running belief and advice is to treat it not as a partisan issue but something we need to hold both sides to.

Nothing but commies in Washington. That doesn’t count

There was a Democrat in New mexico that was advocating for it just last year or the year before. Both sides would sell it in a heart beat if they could. live in denial that that's not the case I don't care. But that will be the demise of public lands if you think the democrats will actually push back to actually try and stop it is funny.

Sounds like quite a number of farmers affected by this--they signed up for federal program and put crops and other things in based on that and now the Trump administration is not honoring their contracts to pay them.

Even if this gets reversed it sets a terrible precedent and gives farmers a legitimate reason not to trust the word of their own government.

Which could be very damaging to farm programs that directly or indirectly benefit wildlife.

Fatalism is an ugly outlook.
