Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

Yah. I can sympathize that one. Unfortunately it'll be just more oppurtunity for residents to pound them a little harder. I hope im wrong. Everyone hear blames NR as the problem as well. Sure is easy to blame someone else for the problem and the DNR (department of matural resources manages are hunting and fishing here) loves it because it keeps the spotlight off the real problem, Them.

I mean our tag for a resident is over the counter so it’s not like our opportunity is going to change and there won’t be anymore resident piss pounding than there already is.But it’s would be a step in the right direction.

I don’t care what state it is they should always look out for its residents first and the non residents should get the scraps. I hunt other states and still 100% feel this way.

Then once that doesn’t change enough on the landscape then the residents who see no problem with over the counter tags and 3 month long seasons have nothing else to blame. That’s when the real meaningful changes can be made.

But when there’s too much pressure across the board, focusing on the less than 25% of total numbers of hunters who are contributing to the overwhelming pressure doesn’t scale enough to solve the problem.

Agree- especially so when that focus is going to have a clear adverse impact in terms of access.

Imagine that for a minute.
600 archery tags and 400 rifle tags.
And the rifle season ends oct 31.

That would mean 40 NR rifle hunting in 705.
0 hunting in November. Once the population rebounds, maybe that’s when the private land doe hunt could be.

There’d be complaining but it wouldn’t be about deer quality or quantity or crowding by Minnesotans or Washingtonians

That's a fair point. I like it. Keep your heels dug in and the momentum going. I just hope it happens before the stars qou is officially adopted as normal and im not talking about just Montana.

It feels like the idea that all problems are the result of NRs is more of a religion in MT than an intellectual concept.

Growing up in Montana, this was and still should be the crowd favorite. Only time this should be acceptable is when major crop damage occurs. Targeted Specific harvesting.

Perhaps. FWP has a budget surplus right now. Cutting NR tags to get closer to the limit defined in legislature is might be a good way to "spend" it. But the surplus won't last forever. Politicians will get their grubby hands on it, for sure. I guarantee that when the budget surplus is gone, someone will float the idea of going back to reselling the tags.

I will sit back and wait to see the improvement in MD numbers and material reduction in pressure.

Just thinking outside of the box here, but perhaps a NR mentorship program of some sort would be of value for some R hunters?
