Fresh Tracks Weekly - Why Non-resident Hunters Pay More

should've just waited till i did both.

I get:

21,006 regular draw
6,156 special

27,162 total full price elk apps for 2024.

sure seems like a drop since 2022. wonder how the reduced price totals have fluctuated over time and if they've spiked in response to full price regular and special price increases. maybe i'll do that over lunch. these dumb .pdfs do convert but carry over some formatting issues into excel.

nothing matters until they stop selling out, obviously. I don't think that'll ever happen. long term issues of pricing out certain folks and state wildlife "isolationism" politics? yeah, i don't entirely get the fuzzies there as that plays out long term. but i'm not as concerned about it as some, perhaps.

use power query within excel and its a breeze once you setup the first one. I have all years logged in my excel spreadsheet. I confirm that I get the same number for 2024.

Also, don't forget that there are also 4-5x as many "point buyers" as there are actual applicants shown in the numbers in the preceding posts. Going to take a long time to empty that pipeline at 8,000 NR tags per season. Many of those "point buyers" have double digit points, so they are likely in it for the long haul and pricing might influence when they finally apply, but with 10+ years in the system, not too many of the double digit point holders are going to walk away due to the price.
Im one of them. did not even bother to apply this year, there are so many ahead of me. even tho i am double digits in. but Im still buying points. Too far down the rabbit hole at this point

Wyoming turned a lot of us into point buyers when they decided to sit on our money for 6 months for 2% odds in the random draw. My hunting partner or myself have typically drawn other tags by then so I just quit wasting money on applying.
