Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

How does this impact NR draw odds for GEN Deer combo? I am a little confused by the way these reductions are occurring - from the split off of the Big game combos. It doesn't seem as straightforward as x% fewer tags = x% lower draw odds...but maybe it is?

Unbelievable to me that people can complain about a modest reduction in NR tags.

In a properly managed state, 705 would maybe have 1000 mule deer tags split between archery and rifle, which would mean 100 NR tags.

Every NR in 705 over 100, is one too many

There will still be thousands post reduction.

what is “less” and why do you think this is “settling”? Some version of this idea has been floated for years, by Rs and NRs including myself.
The initial amendment was 5k. I am happy. Progress should be celebrated.

Is there some other western animal/species/unit/region where NR harvest more than R?

Yeah 5k would have been better. But Rs can’t/won’t pay for it.

No idea. I’m not sure that R/NR harvest % should be the gauge by which problems or solutions are judged. You want to change that number? Make R licenses more expensive and NRs less. In doing that you can cut NR numbers too. You don’t need Rube-Goldberg-Machine type solutions.

Are the public comments available online yet? I can’t find them but maybe I’m missing them. I always enjoy reading them.

Imagine that for a minute.
600 archery tags and 400 rifle tags.
And the rifle season ends oct 31.

That would mean 40 NR rifle hunting in 705.
0 hunting in November. Once the population rebounds, maybe that’s when the private land doe hunt could be.

There’d be complaining but it wouldn’t be about deer quality or quantity or crowding by Minnesotans or Washingtonians

I feel like you could cut some resident tags and raise the price while your at it.

Gotta look at what Montanans aren’t going to throw a shit fit about because making residents happy seems to be the only thing fwp cares about and the resource comes second

Or maybe we just cut NR tags in half and double their price. Not like they still wont sell out with people waiting. Give people something to REALLY complain about.
I don’t hear NRs complaining about the price of the tag. They are complaing that Rs are too cheap to fix the problem.

Commissioner Wargo’s amendments about elk B licenses and eliminating mule deer B licenses on public lands were basically the only amendments that focused on protecting the resource.

Most of the others only addressed how access to exploitation of the resource would be allocated.
