I have a nephew who is active duty and is interested in a 22-250 for coyotes but can't find anything locally (Fort Riley) that fits his price range. Does anyone know if a soldier order a firearm online and have it shipped to a PX or do they need to have it sent off base to an FFL? Is there a better way for him to get a gun shipped in? I've always just done the FFL transfer, but wanted to see if any vets or active duty folks have a recommendation for a better option.

Thanks!

I strongly urge you send it off post to an FFL. Having a gun on the base is a pain. Depending on his rank and billeting, he may not even be allowed one. He would want to check with his CO, and the MPs for the regs there. I kept mine at a friends house off base when I was in.

Is he a member of the post sportsman's club. If not he should join. That group will know all the ins and outs locally, as every post is different. I have hunted on a lot of bases, and I have heard Riley is a good one.

Super helpful folks, all around. Info is sent to the nephew. Now to convince him he needs a Howa. :)
