Sat on a lot of planes recently - met a few people from Utah that cringed when i asked them about what they thought about Mike Lee.

Universally - they seemed to dislike the guy and all of them mentioned public land. I hope they and every other Utahn participates in the primaries and take the trash out.

The most disappointing point for me - i think Lee sold a lot Utahns on "State Transfer" but he actually thinks he has the political capital to just skip to his true intent and skip to sale. What a deceptive trick - wonder what else he's been dishonest about?

Anyway - as someone who votes more conservative - im now committed to following primaries more.

Politicians works for their donors. They have to because being in a party in Congress and getting reelected costs so much. If you replace Lee, then the donors will buy the replacement and for less money to start.

A quick way to get an idea of how big a whore you're dealing with is to check aipac tracker. Lee is has taken about half a much as their favorite pets. Maybe you have a chance to buy him if you get enough people together under on banner.

You aren't going to primary Lee. McMulin ran as an independent and still lost by 10pts. Utah is as red as Wyoming, and they may hate Lee, but as long as the party backs him, there will be no meaningful challenge. Guys like him, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul might be largely hated by their co-workers, but they are reliable votes.

Just wrote to my Montana Senators. Told them that even though Montana is exempted from land sales under Lee's amendment, that is not sufficient to keep my support. Asked them to vote against the full package if the Lee language is included.
What is needed is either third party candidates to run against the likes of Lummis (WY-election in 2026), Hagerman (WY-election 2026) and any other members of congress who vote for this crap. In lieu of that, find a good candidate in places like Wyoming and other western state, start a movement to have a write in vote. Needs some money and organization, but it can work. It did for Murkowski in Alaska. It can be done in our neighborhood as well.

My wife just got a response from Daines. Public land is a priority, blah blah blah. Fifth generation Montanan blah blah blah. Protect Montana public lands.....

Absolutely nothing though about anything outside Montana. Skirted around the whole topic.

His response blows. Quite frankly, it's an insult. The prick definitely sold out.

I’ve received the same canned BS from Daines and Sheehy.

Sheehy’s even went as far as to claim states know how best to manage these lands. Seems he’s against the sale of public lands but supports a transfer?!?

How’s Rand Paul a reliable vote for the GOP?

Same. Crickets from Sheehy.

If you’re voting with a party 9/10 times I’d call that reliable. He might talk the talk but his record doesn’t walk the walk.

I’m not sure the run of the mill authoritarian Republican senators would agree with you but ok.

As has been pointed out, it just has been. He isn’t just small government, he is anti government, which is where the Reps are right now. That certainly puts him as a ‘No’ for anything Dems propose, and the only time he rankles Rep feathers is on spending stuff. He will occasionally vote no but only when it is safe to vote no and the bill still pass.

Republicans aren’t much different than Democrats at this point as far as results go. Nether party is small government.

No disagreement there, it just matters where it goes.
Increase the military? Paul is a yes
Cut food stamps and Medicaid? Definitely a yes (even though KY is a top recipient of that federal assistance, so 🤷)
Get rid of any federal department or agency? He is a yes
Transfer lands to states? A Yes.
That guy would cut SS and somehow still get elected. He’s unique for sure, (edit to add that Lee is usually right there with him) but mostly in being far out on the bat-shit crazy curve on the funding and economics stuff. The rest of his views are standard from the RNC platform and Project 2025.

Thanks for your insight.

If you get the right candidate you could primary Lee but it’s going to be a candidate that leans far to the right. There is still a large contingency of Tea Party republicans who support the far right policies. Evan McMullin was/is a terrible candidate to attempt to unseat Lee. He’s too liberal for the republicans and way too conservative for the dems in the state.
