I think you have misinterpreted that photo. That is the look that comes from the fierce mental struggle between making a roadtrip to MT and staying in AZ for the best (last) week of the season, after running out of Hopzone on Day 21 of the hunt.

This pic cracks me up - it’s not fish eye, just a properly done LONG ARM antler pic with a smaller woman. Elk is entirely processed and frozen, I’m half caught up on work, and ready to find some MT antelope. Took a lot of notes on the hunt and don’t see the need to share on the internet. Long story made short, spent 2 weeks preseason scouting, first week of season was tough. Last week was excellent. Saw one bull that was likely 370+, shot at him 2nd time I saw him and missed (25 yards/deflection). Saw him again 2nd to last day and could not catch him before he got into Apache reservation. Last day knew I should try to shoot maybe 4 or 5 of the bulls I’d seen in the little area I was hunting and ended up with a chance at the one I got - 35 yard shot. It was a really challenging (mentally) and fun experience. A month in AZ. Next on my list is coues hunt. Saw one huge buck and one pretty nice one.

One more thing. I met some great people in Arizona. Lady that rented her cabin to me, her neighbor that rented me a side by side for when my friend was there. We had to use that as opposed to being Gary and Ace on my quad. Some of the other hunters (and most of the guides) I ran into were great. I’ve been receiving a lot of early rifle bull pics from people I ran into. I had some tips/inputs from previous hunters and guides(5 people) who had experience hunting there were just super nice and genuinely interested in seeing me have a great hunt. One in particular - Dr. Jpup, a young guy who’d hunted there numerous times before and had guided for a number of outfitters. He is in medical school and applied for only things he thought he would not draw this year. As luck would have it, he drew the early rifle permit in my unit, muzzleloader pronghorn in a top unit, and trophy mule deer - all this year. He gave me some great tips and just asked that I stay in touch and let him know what I seeing. Before the elk hunt he killed maybe the best pronghorn I’ve ever seen a picture of - it had over 18” length and really freaky. He ended up packing out 2 of my elk quarters and the following day shot one of the best bulls in the herd I was hunting. Hopefully his deer hunt goes half as good as his antelope and elk hunt. Didn’t want to leave this one without thanking all those who helped me - especially @Fidel .

One of the best dudes I know is a Baptist pastor who miraculously could glue my azz to a pew on several consecutive Sundays. I’d heard it before but he made me believe it when he said, “steel sharpens steel.”

Good write up.

Great write up!

I've made several life long friends whom I met while out hunting. Made a few more friends when out in WY this fall, and one or them just sent me a pic of the bull moose he finally notched his tag on after a month and a half of hunting/scouting!

Looks like a great hunt. Can't complain about ending up with a great bull!

Fantastic write up and congrats on enjoying the hunt to the fullest! I always enjoy reading about your adventures afield!

Just got off the phone with an early rifle hunter I met there who got his elk yesterday - the last day of his season. Ran into his crew numerous times. His cousin had the archery permit this year and was a standout Griz quarterback (Sneed) recently. He did not take an elk. They were a great crew to meet.

These long awaited hunts usually leave a guy with way more than a set of antlers and couple hundred pounds of good meat. I also brought home a couple of sheds, a weird rock, a rusty old sign, and then this, of course. That’s going in the envelope with my AZ permit.. Noteworthy part of this trip left by @Fidel on a post-it at my camp the day he left. 🤣

For context - I told my pal (who can imitate with great accuracy all hunting celebrities) to practice his Matzinger before the trip. He keyed in on the lyrics to a rap song playing on a recent social media ad.. which was good for 20 days of laughter.

“King of the jungle, heart of a lion, this is my time.. Whoop!”

“Grown ass fuggin man put that on the World Wide Web… 😂😂

Speaking of rap songs that never should have been made....
My buddy sent me this knowing how I would react, so now all of you have to endure this f'ing song....wait til the end. You're welcome. #KeepPegging

I lack the vocabulary to accurately describe the stupidity of what you just exposed me to.
