Old man, old cartridge, old elk

great bull! Awesome still doing it at 75. I am only 58 and have slowed down a bit. You are an inspiration well done

Congrats on a great bull.
Who would have thought it was possible to kill an elk with a 120 year old cartridge that doesn't have the word Creedmoor after it. ;)

Congrats! Great bull!! Great shot! I turned 75 in May as well and hope to be back in mountains next year. Still recovering from L2-L5 back fusion but making good progress. And yes another .270 geezer. Well kind of. Built it couple years ago to run 156HH at warp speed and it sure does. 700LA, 27" 1:8twist, 0.290 freebore, Triggertech trigger, 3250fps with RL26. I will be using it for elk. But the 140HHT is giving me pause to decide. It's running 3400fps. Both bullets very accurate.

Thank you for giving geezers hope!!!

I turned 75 this May and officially moved into Geezer-hood! I drew a Wyoming bull tag after 12 years of applying. I spent the spring and summer working on getting into realistic shape for a 75 year old. I had planned on using my Kimber 270 for the hunt but I received a new rifle for my 75th birthday. It is a Sako 90 hunter in 30/06 so that is what I took on my hunt. The cliff note version of the hunt are as follows: 1) I used an outfitter, 2) I took the bull on the evening of the second day, 3) saw lots of elk, 4) shooting practice paid off with a 350 yard shot, 5) the old cartridge preformed flawlessly,) the outfitter is outstanding, and finView attachment 389160ally this hunt fulfilled a View attachment 389160life long dream.

What a prize. Congratulations. That's quite a wallhanger. What type of mount? European or chest?

Im 71, and rifle starts on Saturxay here in MT. Did the same routean as you, exercised on a bike all year, Using an outfitter, new rifle in 7PRC. Shoulder cow season started yesterday. Hope to fill my cow tag this week. Then on to a nice 6x6.

Way to go!

I'm just going with a European mount. One exercise that really helps me is yoga twice a week, light weights twice a week (hight reps) biking, hiking and swimming for cardio. Good luck

I dont do yoga, but I do stretch my legs a lot. Ive been hiking/grouse hunting while here in Montana. Diabetes/neuropsthy has destroyed my feet so Biking is better for me. I have a pool at home and get a tiny bit of swimming in in the summer. Gotta stay young!!!

Hmmm ... early start for septuagenarians? Elk B tag seasons (aka shoulder season) starts Oct 25th in Montana.

You hunting Weapons Restricted, special district, or where that's earlier than Oct 25?
I have an elk B tag and a shoulder season/cow elk on essentially private lands started yesterday. I use an outfitter. Rifle season starts Saturday.

Congrats young Man! Excellent shooting BTW! (I thought us guys in our 70s were still "Seniors", not "Old"? lol)

We are only as old as we feel. I keep telling my wife I may grow old but I refuse to grow up. Keeping it light.

Not seniors, just more experienced, as Ronald Reagan always said, to put his younger opponents on their heels.
