For those that care and or understand what I'm talking about ;) I recently accepted a new job. I'm still not 100% sure what the official title is, but the announcement had it listed as a Natural Resource Specialist - Ecologist. I will be developing ecological site descriptions for MLRA 11. The bad news is that it doesn't having me moving somewhere "cooler" as I won't have to relocate at all, just commute a different direction. I'm looking forward to the new challenges. I start Nov. 6th.

That is great news. Someone telling you your skills/knowledge/experience are valuable and in demand is a great feeling. Congratulations!

I assume that means more trips big game hunting out west. Post up the pics next year!

Congrats pointer, gald to see Oak having some competition in the expert department. Twin 'ist' suffixes must be sumpthin powerful impo'tent.

Seriously, good on you.

Congrats on the new job. Its gotta suck, changing jobs during the peak of the rut in the mid west.

Sweet...working on ESD's is my career goal. They are pretty important for us who use them in the field. It is also good to know that many agencies including BLM, USFWS, USFS, and private organizations have accepted them scientifically. Congrats from a fellow NRCS Range Specialist!

Thanks for the kudos! Changing jobs won't be too much of hinderance during the rut, it's with the same employer, just different job and location. Though it will be interesting to see if my leave request for the part of the first two weeks on the job goes through. I don't know if it will me more trips out West, beings as the biggest hurdle with that right now are the kiddos and TMOBs graduate school. But, I'm hopefull... :D

Oak already knows I'm a 'spert, just not sure he cares for the topic... ;)

Congrats on the job! You never know...you may get promoted to somewhere cool someday. ;)

I doubt I'll be going anywhere cool permanantly, as TMOB isn't too interested in those places. But, being as cool as I am anywhere I am becomes cool... ;)

Bennett- What kind of job/career are you looking for? Congrats on the degree.

Congrats on the new gig, is it at least in a different office?

1_pointer I'm looking for anything wildlife biology/wildlife mangement or anything in that related field. Ive been applying for alot of research positions, bioogist aides (and temporary positions) for now because I need experience in the wildlife field. I live in pa but have applied for jobs anywhere from in Pa to Utah so hopefully something good happens soon. My current job is sheet metel but we're super slow right now luckily i have a loving wife who's tolerated my mooching ;)

Good luck! If you haven't been to usajobs.com, all federal jobs are listed there. If you can, I wouldn't be afraid of taking a term position. While you're waiting I would suggest taking some graduate level courses and/or try to get into a masters program. You are trying to enter a very competitive field, IMO, and anything that separates you from the rest won't hurt. Similarly, anything in the field, including volunteer work would help the resume.

Tone, yep it's a different office, I will be working in indianapolis.

Congrats, Pointer. Does this mean you have more time to chase critters or all sort, in all different places? You got those Indy whitetails dialed in yet? Always enjoyed those UT pronghorn pics you would send.

Tone- Thanks for caring.

FIn- I'm hoping that I will be able to chase critters of various stripes in various locales and the job shouldn't be too much of a hinderance. Don't have the whitetails dialed in just yet, but did just sign the papers on 55ac + cabin part of which borders federal land. So, I plan on getting after it later this year.

Now that is as cool as it gets for a guy who loves to hunt and is raising some young 'uns to do the same. The best money you will probably ever spend.
