I just went to shut some lights off and I have a giant coon eating my cat food. I thought it was a skunk but have never seen it actually doing it. He's a booner. Any suggestions?

Aim for the guts!... oh wait thats for a different animal. Throw the cat outside to fight for its food.

He is outside. I'm sure he's met this dude before. The head on the coon is big. I'm afraid if I shoot I'll blow a window out of the rental. I went for the camera and he saw me move and took off. All I have is a 22

Bart:

We have the same problem and those coons love cat food. The one hitting our place must weigh 25 lbs but can still fit through a cat door.

I stopped by FWP on the way home thinking it was a skunk and was going to get a Hav a Heart trap. They said if it's a coon they can get out of those traps and that I need ring trap:confused: I'll stop by tomorrow and get a ring trap to unless I see him again before bed and he gets a lead bullet.

Tommorrow night, take an old extension cord and strip the hot and neutral wire and put them in the cat food dish. Leave about a one inch gap between the wires and some insulted material in between them....kind of like a cattle prode. Then make sure the cat is locked inside and plug in the cord. Meanwile enjoy your time on hunt talk but make sure your power cord is plugged into a different breaker than your computer. That should teach the sucker head.

Did you happen to work as an electric chair assistant at one time? I don't think I have the electrical capabilities to tackle that. What you doing this weekend?:D

I have the the same problem. My wife keeps on leaving the garage doors open so the cat can get to his dish. He is terrified of the coon. My wife had to back down the other day. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I have traps but didn't want to nail him here. There's lots of pets in the area. I'll just shoot him when he gets in the yard next time.

I trap and coon are about as easy as they get to trap. You should have no trouble live trapping him and taking him to a new location
I have a slightly larger member of the coon family coming and getting into my trash;black bear.

Stop by my house. I have some conibears. He will have a serious problem once he tries to walk through that.

Or a foot hold trap works well for coons as well, just set it at the bottom of the stairs and set cat food above it on a step and they are pretty easy to trap. Be handy with a bat when you hear that trap snap cuz he'll make some god awful racket.

There are several dog proof raccoon traps that work if you are worried about pets in your area. A cat could technically trigger one, but generally if you use sweet bait like marshmellows or something similar a cat won't mess with it but a racoon will.

The Grizz Getrz and the Duke Dog Proof Traps both work really well.

Just make sure you set them far enough apart that the same racoon doesn't end up with one hand in each trap.

Ignore the redneck sounding dude talking if you watch the video.

That picture is awesome of those two boys ---- like they were caught with hands in the cookie jar.

A cat food dish of blue marlin fly bait and MT Dew and he would be doing good if he made it 10ft from the cat dish.Trapping him would be better if you can get him that way though.

I had that problem last year. Because I live in a subdivision with .25 acre lots a 22 was out of the question so I turned to my bow. I rigged a light on my sights and the next night he showed up I snuck around the corner of my house and let him have it. He ran right at me before it was all over! Make sure if you try this method to put on shoes and wear something more than just skivies. Running from a pissed off coon barefoot and in your underwear makes you feel very vulnerable!

That's great. You made my day with that vision.
