OK all you youngin's gather round and let the old man pass along some wisdom he gained at great personal expense. Several years ago, my exwife pissed and moaned about my smoking and nagged at me until I finally quit. That is/was the best gift she ever gave me. I just got out of the hospital a while ago after a "cardiac event" AKA heart attack. I spoke with the doc today and he told me that if I were still smoking, there is about a 99% chance I would not have survived and a 100% chance I would not have survived and recovered as quickly or as well as I have. (No residual damage and no blockage.) So if you smoke ... quit! I look forward to seeing my oldest and my youngest grandkids graduate from high school and college and get married and start families of their own. It's funny how your values change after this kind of "event".

Dan,

I completely agree. I used copenhagen from age 15 - 30. Then I saw a man who had his entire bottom jaw cut off from cancer and decided right there to stop. It's been over 3 years now and I feel sorry for people that use tobacco in any form.

I smoked for twenty years, but will celebrate 20 smoke free years this year. I do not understand why people start smoking, knowing what we know now.

The bottom line is, the only thing nicotine does, is keep you addicted to nicotine. It is so simple to quit once you figure that out. May not be easy, but it is simple.

Former snuff face and reborn tobacco hater.

I have watched several smokers in my family die from lung cancer relatively young. Ages 65, 67 and 55.

I hope your recover is quick and that all is well with your future.

I started Skoal when I was around 13 and finally quit September 8, 2009. I don't miss it and I hope my little boy never starts. 21 years of dipping and it wasn't hard to quit.

Here's to a long life. I only had a cig in my mouth one time. Used it to light some fireworks. Made me so sick I never had the desire to actually smoke. Thank goodness

Took my 1st dip when I was 16, decided to drink a few Hamm's beers with it, not a pretty next hour or so:eek:. Can't stand the smell of chew since (25 yrs later) Have a long list of relatives who have and are paying for it right now. Good advice danr55

Having my Lil girl was the best thing that ever happend to me and a vowed to never smoke again to protect her from the 2nd hand smoke and i want to be there someday to walk her down the isle and not need an O2 mask to do it

Lost my father and brother to cardio/respiratory illness in their early sixties, no doubt exacerbated by tobacco/alcohol, lack of excercize, and undisciplined diet. Good advice Dan, glad to hear from you.

My parents smoked when I was a Kid. I grew up with asthma, and that kept me from ever wanting to start. Dad quit cold turkey when I was 12 or 13, and today, 23 years later, and even a few pounds heavier, at 68 he is running 5 k's .

Pretty proud of him for that.

Tough stuff in any Form. The biggest fights I have had with my wife has been over her smoking and we just watched her mother die of Emphysema. Not a way I want to go or see my wife go though. Thanks Dan! John

My life insurance ran out and I needed to re-up. The difference in price between tobacco and non-tobacco users will raise your eyebrows. I haven't had any Skoal since the first of the year and really don't miss it much. Hopefully I have turned the page on that chapter of my life.

Glad your OK Danr... thats Good advise... I never smoked Tabacky... But the Wife is a pack a day lady.. she will not quit..

CJ, She'll quit one day.. hopefully not soon.

:D:D:D:D

My wife is an "Freak".. clear lungs... eats gummie worms and other junk all day.. every day... Our Doctor said he can't believe her health... she still fits into her high school clothes...never weights more than 108-112 lbs...[ except when pregnant]...Yes he has advised her to quit the expensive [ merit 100s] pack a day....My wife even challenged the Doc. to a hike up squaw peak... he declined...:)

She just has weird genes:hump:
