Brownell's Spring Reloading Sale

Hey Shoot's Straight

I think the "Gaydar" comments about southerners riled up a lot of people because:

A) It was kind of true; and

B) Texans are southerners, and population-wise, Texas is to North America what India is to Asia

I think Nemont is right that Schweitzer's image could never make it through the national media. I wish it would though, if only to see him debate the big players in the National political scene. He is one of the finest debaters I've seen, and would slice through the vague overgeneralized non-answers typically provided in presidential debates like a hot knife through butter.

Christie and Schweitzer in a cheezeburger eating contest, who would you lay money on?

Christie had the lap=band surgery so it goes to Schweitzer based on biology alone.

Nemont - yes, Christie is still viable, and gaining ground in some states in terms of public opinion against Hillary. It's also pretty sad that Christie is, warts and all, the best that the GOP will come up with for 16.

I'm not saying one thing or another about Schweitzer as a candidate. What I've learned about him is that you never count him out.

It's kind of true about any state.

Democratic strategist Ben LaBolt, who was also President Barack Obama's national press secretary for his 2012 re-election campaign, said Schweitzer's comments will have consequences, “largely disqualifying” him from presidential run.

"This time the loose cannon was aimed back at the ship," he said.

I too like the Feinstein metaphor...hell, he couldn't be any worse than a prevaricating Clinton redux.

I don't trust him and I find him to be a blowhard bully and that doesn't fly on the national level.

I will bet once the he figures out that the media isn't going to just roll over for him and will actually dig into his closet, he will opt to remain the guy who give colorful interviews and makes fun of southerners.

I just don't see him being able to raise enough money and survive the many microphones shoved in his face.

Your mileage may vary.

I'm not sure I got the entire picture on how you feel about the former Governor. :D

Hey, as a political observer, I admire the guys skills and his ability. I have met him twice and both times he was a guy I would like to sit down and just listen to him talk while hoisting a few.

As for how he operated, his policies and his payoffs to his friends, not a fan.

He is a colorful guy and his is very, very smart but he is also not trust worthy and is not above using his position to enrich himself and his family and friends.

I've been chewed on by some of the best politicians around, but nobody could deliver an ass-chewing like Schweitzer. I think, when we look back objectively we're going to see that Schweitzer did a hell of a lot of good for the state in a manner that didn't make many friends. Given what he had to work with at the Legislature and the Fed, I can see why the combativeness was necessary.

At the very least - he was up to the task.

I wonder how the comments would roll here if Schweitzer had an R next to his name instead of a D?

:

Something tells me 'ol Ben damn sure wouldn't be eulogizing an azzchewing were that the case.;)

Oh Please. Here is what Schweitzer said:

“If you were just a regular person, you turned on the TV, and you saw Eric Cantor talking, I would say—and I'm fine with gay people, that's all right—but my gaydar is 60-70 percent,”

Up until a year ago the MT GOP had within their platform to criminalize homosexuality.

That's the primary reason a Republican would likely be getting a different reaction. Typically, they aren't "fine with gay people". Quite the opposite.

I guess time will tell but he left more than a few messes behind.

I will give him credit for living by the creed, "When in charge, take charge".

Show me one that fought tooth & nail for wildlife, access, public land, hunters & anglers.

Other than TR.

At best he held the line against the Republican extremist who wanted to privatize and still want to privatize public lands.

He didn't do much to expand any of those unless it was to deliver vast sums of money to friends of his for the state to purchase their ranch at above market costs.

I can't find any dryland grazing land out there that comes close to $1,778 an acre, but ole Brian found some when his family friends needed to sell their place. Even got $2 million out of the underfunded University system to help pay for it.

Not to mention the idiotic bison transfer that has become a thorn in many people's sides and for which Schweitzer knew he didn't have to be around to deal with the fall out.

It's kinda funny how Wilson's willingness to get us in debt for WWI is so close to Bush's willingness to get us in debt for Iraq.

Except WWI was justified.

& keeping a license fee increase off the table as well.

All true - but I think you forget places like Marias River WMA, Fish Creek, Marshall Block (Lots of state $ went into the Legacy project), $10 million for better fishing access and a ton of conservation easements and other purchases that, I believe, history will show to be worthwhile expenditures.

BS did more damage to land owner/sportsmen relations with the bison issue than any previous Governor and will take the next couple to fix. Lets not even take a look at Spotted Dog.
