Hearing Aid Use

So I searched threads and didn't find exactly anything that answers this. I do not where hearing aids. I went and got tested and they told me a hearing aid wont help since its inner ear. But I am pretty sick of not hearing. If there is any ambient noise I am done. Family at a restaurant. No chance. But what is putting me over the edge now is likely one of my favorite sounds. Turkey Gobbles. I literally watched turkeys gobble at 75yds thru binoculars and couldn't hear them because it was drizzling. The sound of the rain drowned out the gobbles. In the past I have tried walkers game ear. Well woody woodpecker sounded like he was on my head. And I had no idea which way to look when I heard a deer walking. I got to try something so my question for those with hearing aids:
  1. What kind do you have?
  2. Can you tune sounds in and out to hone in or everything is loud
  3. Are you directionally challenged with them when you hear a noise?

I wear Signia Stilettos. They help in certain situations. In a noisy room with lots of background sounds having a conversation with someone is still a challenge. Through the app you can turn them up or down, have them directionally focus, and make a few other adjustments. The audiologist programmed them to tune out sounds like wind and road noise. It dampens them but does not remove the sound. Do they improve my quality of life for as much as I paid for them? Meh, I'm not so sure. I wish they cured tinnitus, no hope there.

Tinnitus is miserable...

In my experience you will still have the same issues you will just be able to hear the gobble. I had them for three years while I waited on decisions about surgery... I don't have Tinnitus tho. My inner ear bones were destroyed by growths in my ear so there was no way for sounds to get down to my ear drums. Which unlike most people were still perfectly fine...I now have reconstructed ears 🤣 and hear around 90% unless it's my wife

I tried everything this place had to offer , it was almost all covered .
They start you at the bottom, cheaper units , and work their way up .
I tried them all , the directional ones, the ones they tuned out the static , all the way up to $1200 out of pocket and maxed out my insurance.
Took them back after two weeks.
In a restaurant or noisy spot they were torture, and nothing did away with the tinnitus.

Tinnitus in one ear is bad, having it in both is really bad. I don't hear many different tones and the higher pitches just aren't there. Deeper voices accompanied by my ability to read lips fairly well allows me to carry on a conversation if you're looking at me. I tried a couple different hearing aids all of them didn't help.

Hearing loss SUCKS! I truly wish that I could contribute something constructive to this thread. So here is what I will ad..

1. Tell your wife that you actually wish that you could hear her correctly the first time, so she understands (the above comic reminds me of that).
2. Consider getting a second opinion from a highly qualified Dr. My first Dr. sucked and audiologists are equally as useless other than selling and tuning equipment. Had I caught my problem sooner I wouldn't be facing surgery. Certain issues that cause hearing loss can also cause equilibrium issues and beyond if not treated early.

Good luck.

Well making light is all I got left at this point. Lol. Sounds like there is no good fix. I do get off participating in some stupid conversations by acting like I dont hear. So I do have that going for me.

Philips MiniRITE TR from Costco. Tuneable (by technician) for media, crowds, certain sound frequencies etc. Moderately effective at home, less so in large groups or crowds. I don't have tinnitus so no feedback (pun intended) on that topic.
