Had some while visiting family in Italy. It was stringier than I would have anticipated. My mom, a pescatarian and a horse rider, was mortified. I probably ate it mostly put of spite, but also to make sure we didn't offend our family who had prepared it as a special dish. Can't say I really enjoyed it, but it wasn't bad enough where I wouldn't give it another shot.

If you bought ground beef from Aldi's or Trader Joe there might be a chance you ate some horse, they were busted for having horse meat some time ago if I recall. I also asked a few different people who went to Africa on hunts and they said the best game they ate was Zebra. If they opened up a wild horse hunt in the USA I would have no trouble with making a lot of summer sausage with a nag

Isn't Iceland where the whales are hung and aged until almost rotten? Thought I saw this on Anthony Bourdain or Bizarre Foods once. mtmuley

50 some years ago I lived with a German family in the mountains above Boise towards Idaho City. The father told me horse meat was good but you had to boil the piss out of it. Had to do with a horse having different sweat glands. Cured me from ever wanting to try it.

I think you are referring to Greenland sharks.

On different trips to the Dark Continent (Africa), I have eaten zebra, wildebeest, leopard, kudu, impala, giraffe, and sable.

The zebra was fairly good but the best flavored meat was giraffe. In comparison, the leopard was better than our mountain lion meat.

I have eaten horse meat in Kazakhstan while on the mountain hunting Siberian Ibex. There it comes in a vacuum sealed can like our Tuna comes in only larger. I have shot Zebra in South Africa, Namibia and Uganda but have been never offered any to eat although I undershand it is good. I had friends that were in process of purchasing a hunting concession in Australia but when they added on two million more acres and were told they hasd to remove 50 thousand donkies from it, it spoiled the deal.
