Half Ton Truck C vs E Ply Tires

Have E rated on my 1/2 ton PU and Jeep JK. Going to have E rated put on my daughter's Tacoma, too.

I got tired of having to change a tire just to get off the mountain, went to 10ply and have not had a problem in years.

I just got a new truck and it has everything needed to be a nice quiet smooth ride on the pavement. Looked up tires to get them ready for out west and $348 each, not to excited to add $1400 bucks on top of the purchase price.

Yeah there’s a little sticker shock with tires anymore. The same tires I got for $1000 out the door a few years ago are now $1500.

Zero chance that I would put E-rated tires on a half ton. Unless you’re doing heavy hauling, the C-rated tires are fine.

Understand what load inflation charts are and do some simple math. Google the topic as there are a good number of threads on how to use this information.

6 ply tires I bought used. Truck is about 2/3 full in pic. Had 1 flat in 12 or 14 years. I only buy load range E for my trucks usually but the C rated won't pop at every obstacle. The tires on the truck bit the dust last summer with about 3/16 tread. mtmuley

I run E rated because I like to spend money apparently, but even some brands E rated have weak sidewalls and more easily get sliced on rocks

A lot of our fleet trucks have load range C Duratracs on them. I don’t think we have any more flats with those than folks using load range E tires.

I have only ever put E rated tires on my 1/2 tons. Stronger tougher tire with no drawbacks except maybe a couple of bucks.
