FWP Wildlife Chief Being Reassigned

That's the positive outlook we need!

In all seriousness, this is extremely frustrating. It just seems absolutely stupid to me the lengths people will go to destroy wildlife for their own gain. If people want to leave a legacy, protecting our wild places and wildlife for everyone to enjoy seems like the way to do it, not burn it all down to the ground. I truly hope more people are spreading the word about how awful this situation is. I fear for the lasting effects from all these changes.
People forget quickly, and it's important to remind one another of all these bad decisions that have been made.
Once again, great reporting by Laura Lundquist.
Wildlife and the resources need more advocates.
I think they are trying to destroy FWP. Best way to do that is from the inside. If the destroy FWP it will easier to destroy the barriers preventing the rich and connected from getting what they want.

I guess I just have a hard time comprehending that people will go to such lengths to break down these barriers to get what they want, such as privatizing wildlife. It just seems like there's more important things to these rich folk in the grand scheme of things for them, but I suppose greed is greed no matter with what it is.

A majority that voted in the last Montana election are suspect...not what I would call real smart.

GG is doing exactly what he said he would do... apparently some thought that he was bullshitting?

Wake up call is upon them...you get what you vote for.

There has been an effort since the early 1980s to destroy the institution of government with a multi-prong approach. Cut of funding. Give tax cuts and scream about budgets and deficits. Unfortunately the appetite for US debt is so large we have easily been able to fund the deficit. Attack through legislature by pushing power from federal level to state and local level. And lastly, and most lately, destroy the credibility of the organization. Appoint useful idiots to be in charge and make it miserable for staff to work there unless they go along with the crazy stuff the leader suggested. This is just GG’s attempt using the latter. You can see it is working by reading posts that attack FWP. Most people can’t separate incompetent leadership from the organization itself. I’m not sure how FWP ever recovers it’s credibility from this disaster.

Rich people don’t like being told ‘no’. Do you really think the Wilks care more about shooting a big bull elk or about the fact they are being told they can’t unless they draw a tag like everyone else? They have spent way more money on lawyer fees to get what they want than they would have spent on the ability to hunt elk in other places to even Governors tags.

In all fairness biologists and wildlife managers had to know what they’ve been doing is wrong for a very long time. They didn’t have much credibility to start with. We are just burning down what was left.

Let’s see, continual attacks by a hostile legislature since about 2006 2004. The Brian Schweitzer/Joe Maurier years. Continued attacks by the legislature. Legislatively mandated elk management at or below objective. Continued attacks by the legislature. Jersey Greg and Hank.

Sure, write all the letters you want. I can guarantee you rank and file employees have been sounding the alarm since the early 2000s. No one cared then, and they don’t care now.

There are a whole host of reasons leading up to the current shit show. Lots of folks have left their finger prints on this turd, and your current governor sure as hell ain’t going to demand better.

So why didn’t democratic Montana governors (and their appointed FWP directors) put actions in place to prevent this via legislature in the 16 years they held office before Jersey Greg took office 16 months ago?
“Democrats need to be adults, so that we can elect wing nuts and not suffer consequences”

The second dems did something like that at any level of gov, reps would scream over reach, commies, socialist, nazis etc.

And to be clear I’m not going full send endorsing dems.

We, at all levels, need to vote for responsible politicians.

How were they supposed to do that exactly with a Legislature that was openly hostile towards the agency during that period? They’ve played the long game to get us exactly to this point. The thing that kept this shitshow from happening sooner was a Democratic Gov who wielded the veto.

Many people warned that this would be the outcome if GG was elected, but as per usual no one seemed to care then. Lots of people on this very forum were very clear that hunting isn’t among their top 10 issues at election time. If that’s truly the case and people no longer care enough about hunting to make it a priority, we just won’t continue to have it. @BuzzH says it best…you get what you vote for.

So many variables to contend when choosing from the two party system the voters continually support/endorse.
Value on both sides beyond wildlife from State Gov / Congress to Fed Representatives for the State.

Some seem content to blame one party for one aspect yet ignore the detriment of their own and why the State voted as we did.

This trench polar party parade has damaged the great State of Montana among many other States and our Republic.

Until we stop looking at the other party with our nose up wind of our own party's dung, we will continue to reap what we've sown.

That’s 100% true. I’ve said something very similar on here. I was genuinely curious. Thanks for the insightful answer. Elections do have consequences. It’s something people must think about before filling in that little circle.

When a candidate with lots of baggage and flaws like GG wins an election it is more of an indictment of the other candidate/party than it is an endorsement of the winner. For the loser it is a time to take a good look in the mirror and fix the dark spots on your image. Calling the voting public stupid indicates a party that is unwilling to address their flaws and mistakes.
On the other hand the winners too often view the results and a full fledged endorsement and push their bad ideas full steam ahead and then wonder why the paddle wheel falls apart in the current.
One of the flaws in a two party system.

Interesting video simulating alternative options for voting like introducing a 3rd party, different voting systems, and social dynamics in each system.
