Fresh Tracks Weekly - Vote In Your Primary Election

I think we could make the case that we don't want legislators that have too much experience. I think most of us don't want them to do what they want, but do what we (constituents) want.

Politicians like Mayors, Governors, etc need a bit more experience leading and making decisions. It would still be better to have someone who has no experience if the alternative is someone who is incompetent or generally does a bad job if they are a politician already.

It’s great to have adolescents in gov’t. Entertainment when you hear a 19yr old and speak to/against a bill, and they say “well for my whole life, it’s been this/that”. Should be a 32 yr old min for legislature, and have to have at least paid taxes for X yrs.
Ironic youre getting roasted for this here. Just goes to show - something getting likes doesnt mean its right.

I dont think its all that crazy to say that a 20 year old is simply not qualified.

That too.

While I don’t have data to compare modern IQ to that of 1776, the drastic increase throughout the 20th century suggests that a top-level modern young adult is far superior in that regard to those from 1776 as well.

Point being: I don’t think it’s fair to discount younger candidates as “unqualified” just due to age. As far as the taxes argument, that is slippery slope… by that logic: what about lower income voters, government workers, public school teachers, many ranchers etc… who aren’t “paying taxes” at the same rate as many others (as defined as humans being viewed at tax assets vs liabilities)?
