Fleeing California

Our shelves in California are well stocked with paper products again... in case you fellas need something to wipe those sniveling noses 😂
I know this is a joke thread, and thats what California has become to the rest of the country. Just remember, a large amount of Californians (myself included) share the same passion and respect for the outdoors that many of you do. Don't make broad generalizations. Don't behave like those "children" we all encounter in the elk woods that claim public land drainages are their own private hunting grounds. And lastly, make an effort to take a California transplant in your city and introduce him to your way of living (if he's willing of course).
I'll see you fellas this fall.. I have a MT general tag hahah

Dont forget to turn the lights off before you leave California this fall. You will be the last one there. ;)

It doesnt much matter where you go. Just too many people. Even here in the midwest the house I grew up in was the only house on a gravel road. Closest house was mile away as crow flies or so. Fast forward 15 years it's a four lane highway with track homes 3 feet apart for miles. Full of people from the city who now think they live in the "country". Whatever there escaping from they have a way of recreating once they get there.

Very well put. I too feel/felt that way for a long time. And that it is a free nation for anyone to live where they desire. And I still do for the most part. But I think you would feel differently if the situation was reversed for you. A Californian mentality typically wants someone else to go the extra mile for them. Kind of like everyone owes them something for screwing up their own state by electing incompetent people to run it into the ground. And by creating unrealistic laws for their citizens to conform to. Then, in joining a new and fresh community, they try to change the new place to fit their expectations of what they were taught or trained to believe is a better way. Sad, and I hate to feel that way. But it is what it is.

You make a good argument, but it probably won't change anyone's opinion anytime soon.

Interesting to see the people from California around town. Many don't even try to blend in. They wear the "Cali" hats and T-shirts. As if they are bragging about being from there. I guess they don't understand that most people see that and want them to go back.
I shudder when I remember my attire from my college tour 30 years ago. I was wearing a Cal-Berkeley sweatshirt when I stopped to talk to the guys who had just turned out a boxful of hounds on a lion track Highway 12 near Lolo Pass. I think they were speechless when I started talking hunting with them....

It is almost as fun as when i run into French tourists in town while wearing a cowboy hat and address them in fluent francais.

I totally agree, I would be bummed if my community was be inundated with different values (oh wait that’s happening haha)!! I’ll flip the tables again... how would you fellas feel if you lived in a place that was falling apart and when you finally moved to your dream destination you were met by a bunch of mtmuleys that lumped you into a category you don’t belong in? This is an age old problem that isn’t going anywhere. I am envious of you folks that grew up in an area that I can only visit a few times a year.
I’m not looking for anyone to go the extra mile for me, but I promise the next time I get sent to help with the wildfires in Montana I’ll go the extra mile for you guys...

There's really no way to not be offensive about the topic of Californicating other places. It generally not those that enjoy the outdoor sporting life but it's happened to every state nearby, WA, OR, NV and now to other places where they are scattering to. I wouldn't mind if the politically active ones left their politics at home, but they don't. The scenario, every time, is to leave CA because they've had it and then recreate the same stinking mess they left elsewhere. I loved living in NV until recently. NV used to be a place where people didn't whine about things in general. Now, it's a blue state and there are negative changes being brought about by blue politics. Great news for you that live in ID, MT, WY, etc., haven't decided yet but we'll eventually be leaving here to live there once our boy is done with HS.

It isn't the "people" who migrate out of CA or NY, its their politics. People don't seem to realize that when they move from an area that has become unlivable for them, its not a good idea to advocate for the same features (that caused them to abandon their old home) in their new home. Most folks are fine and easy to get along with, its their politics that suck.

I know a handful of people who live in California. Not a single one of them plans to be there for the long term.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of Californians that are currently living there, have long term plans to leave.

I came to Idaho from California 30 years ago and moved Idaho politics to the right. My positions on public lands now have most of my family calling me a socialist.
When they tell me they want to move to Idaho, I tell them they would be much more comfortable in Utah with all the other Bundyites.

Idaho needs to think a lot harder about keeping out the Bundyites than anything.
