You could always hang that bad boy and nail up fake christmas trees all around and under him (or make some sort of life scale diorama). Mostly joking, as that'd be more difficult to keep the dust off

Try the driftwood first or other habitat if you don't like it then find a new cape.

Several good suggestions on here but you could always buy the coyote short neck mount from the "What happens when you die" thread and hang it next to your elk. Trust me after seeing the yote no one would notice that you screwed up your elk mount.

Easy. Some sort of habitat. Rock, log, tree, grass, a combination of all of them. Cut the form into a wall pedestal if needed. If your taxidermist isn’t comfortable doing that then at least you know not to send him work in the future, because that’s an easy fix.

I would use some sort of habitat that would remind you of the hunt. If he was in conifer trees then use that, if out by rocks than use that, in a corn field...etc.

Could get someone who is actually good at killing elk to gift you a hide

Why not make a pedestal mount and add a fake rock, piece of drift wood ?
