My old man fulfilled one of his life long dreams, but it was a tough week for the outfit we hunted with. Only 2 of 6 tags filled. I had, hands down, the most exciting run at a couple of bulls at last light on the last day. My guide and I charged up the mountain about 400 yards and ended up what I figured was 65 yards from 3 bulls that were mewing and smacking trees with their antlers. I could just barely make out 2 of them but it was just too dark to make a shot. If only everything that happened was 5 or 10 minutes sooner. Montana and I have some unfinished business.

Ooooh, I didn't go home empty handed. I found a nice big shed up there too. It was a great week, but I'm excited to go back to public land on my own next season.

Harvested my first bull this year. I have been elk hunting for a few seasons (more than I’m willing to admit). This year, my goal was to find a bull in public land. This is the first year I was able to dedicate a lot of time into the hunt and after seeing multiple bulls (often out of my range and with dwindling shooting light) this guy stepped out. To many, he isn’t a trophy bull or maybe not even a shooter, but I am not a trophy hunter. When I felt I knew where and when it would all come together I invited my wife to come with me, and everything fell into place. I was able to share the experience with my dad and wife and that made the experience so special. Time to fill my wife’s hair tag!

Your bull is a special trophy in my eyes because you got to share your hunt with people you care about. Congrats!
