I purchased a new 15hp Mercury outboard yesterday to replace the 1991 Evinrude 15hp. The old motor is in the shop getting a tune up then will be sold.

After getting the first hour of break-in out of the way I hit a channel that crappie head to after ice out. I wasn't disappointed. All good eaters!

Those are some beautiful fish. How long were some of your biggest fish. We get to fish here in mississippi year round and consider anything over 12 inches long a good fish. In some of the lakes here they have to be over 12 inches to keep them. You have some great eating. Congratulations.

Mostly 10"+/- with a couple past 12". Pretty typical for around here with our shorter growing period. Through May when they're in the reeds & I can sight fish them the size runs about 12" on average.

I really would like to get down to a couple of lakes in Mississippi someday, might be wishful thinking but not out of the possible.

Lots of people target them through the ice in the winter & do real well.

The corp of engineer lakes along interstate 55 are great lakes to catch really big fish from although you can not catch big number of fish, ( Grenada, sardis, Enid and arkabutla). I fish the ross barnett reservoir near jackson mississippi often. I only live 1.5 miles from the lake. It is not uncommon to catch 14 inch fish here although when I carry someone that wants to catch a big fish I hardly ever do. If you ever want to make the trip down here i will be glad to help you on the ross barnett.
