His name is Redd. He supervises just fine and chases squirrels, hares, ptarmigan, grouse, moose, voles, bees, flies and blue jays. He’s not worth the food bill as a hunter but his love for me is unconditional.
Took my daughter on her first duck hunt for the youth season a couple of weeks back. She's not quite comfortable with a 20 gauge, so she was popping off shots with the little single-shot .410. We were hunting in Southwest Montana in a small high-mountain lake/pond.
I've been watching a little too much Hal Blood on the youtubes lately. muzzleloader opened saturday, so I took my five year old on a walk through a little block close to the house. A decent doe flushed out of the muscadines at about fifty yards and big boy got to see just how good he ain't with a peep sight. I hit her pretty far back. Liver and gut. No blood at the shot and I'd lost her in the smoke so I rolled the dice with the puppy.
Him finding it was more luck than skill, but luck counts too.
