Dam to Dam

Crap dude, that is friggin awesome! I can endure many tough physical challenges but swimming is not one of them...........I for sure would have drowned in the first mile:)

Good job! I'm a great swimmer too...it's just the returning to the surface I have problems with! :)

Wow, that is an accomplishment. Congrats!

How long did you train to do something like that?

So, I'm the worst to ask about training... I don't train enough. The month prior to the swim I might have put in 11 total miles. I did run in between though a little too but not enough. I keep saying next time I'll train harder.

It's not muscles and training that get's me through, it's lack of brains not to be smart enough to quit :D

Sweet! Mucho congrats! What's next?

Next year I'm going to do it again, but prior to that I'm doing a 70.3 IM and a 140.6 full IM. I'll be 40 next year so I'll get my 140.6 mid life crisis out of the way while I can still walk.

ALSO, I have a Good Oregon Deer tag and a Wyoming Deer/Lope tag in my pocket so I need to focus on that first !!

Shrinkage? There was nothing left :D

I could have had Fluffers and bikini lifeguards all afternoon and had nothing. All I wanted was Food and sleep. NOTHING else crossed my mind. And thats ODD. (Not that nothing crossed my mind because my mind is usually empty, but that something else didn't cross it ;) )

Are you going to be signing up for the English Channel now?

Not yet. I'm a wussy worker outer. I dont' like getting up early or training. I'd have to comit to something like that. That's a big feat !!!!! I'm not ruling it out yet... but not next year.

I have to admit the water was nice early on in the morning !!!

Good luck on the IMs! Have any of the boys taken an interest in doing them?

PS- You said "fluffers"... (hehehe)

Not really. O-town is a runner though. He just ran a 10k @ 6min5 sec miles. Smoked it. He has done 2 youth Tri's and did well. He's not a good swimmer. He'll need some pool time if he wants to do those. But he's sticking to Track and X-country. Which will be good in the hills this year again :D

Zach is starting to swim, and the others are juut being kids so we'll see what they do ;)

Oscar, curious what kind of open water swims you did leading up to this. Did you have any buoys to aim for to keep you on track? What about Fueling? Swimming for 4.5 hours must have taken some gels or a big mac at least!

You are definately a good role model for your kids on the exercise front. I could learn a lot on how to make it FUN for the kids....

{correction}......Swimming for 7.5 hours.

Open water swims ?!?!?!?! I got in a 4.5 mile swim 1 week before the race. Figured that was good enough. Maybe you missed the part where I said I don't train enough ;)

As far as eating. I figured it would take about 7 hours for me. I swim in the pool without flip turns at a 30 min/mile pace ( 50 second lap(ish) ) so figured a 40 min mile pace in open water or just over 7 hours. Wind picked up and took me a little longer.

I planned to eat every hour about. A Powerbargel or soemthing. I had a support boat with pleanty of food. Unfortunately I stopped eatting and drinking and jsut tried to finish. Wasn't the smartest idea.

We didn't have any Bouy's. We were going to, but I couldn't find enough so I set a fairly easy path and everyone swam down the Left side of the lake. Here is a Video of about how it went :

Next year I plan to swim more... train more... but we'll see. I say that every year and never get to it. Keeping track of 5 kids and a hot wife keeps me busy full time.... ;)

That's a killer pace for a 10K! I don't think I could run 100yds in that time... :D

All of mine are too young yet to see what they want to do, but so far baseball and football have kept the oldest busy and he seems to like them. He thinks he's a rock star because he got a trophy for football...but so did every other kid! I'm gonna wait a few years before I start inserting the ideas of winning and losing. I'm just glad that he's learning the sports and having fun.
