Sitting in the tire shop, watching Gov. Cuomo's press conference. The McKinsey models they are using project an apex in NY at the end of April, with up to 37,000 ventilators needed.

It's startling how quickly several states have moved up in the infection toll, relative to others that have had cases for much longer.

I don't know a thing about Governor Cuomo, but I have to say it was so refreshing to watch someone speak in frank, transparent terms with no self-aggrandization.

Edit: I read an article about an antibody test that could quickly determine who has been previously exposed to the virus. That could be a really big deal for allowing folks to go back to work.

i think there is a mixture of him being honest, frank, and being (and trying to be) a good leader

but i can't help but think the fact that many of his strong statements have turned him into the latest "trending" media hound has him feasting for more of the attention, therefore he brings more of it to the table for the clicks and views regardless of what he's really doing to lead the crisis

Well @Trial153 Italy and Spain had many preexisting of elderly and heavy smokers. Americas numbers will jump due to over half the population being obese, a lack of proper healthcare and sheer stupidity of the population. The numbers in the states are not to be relied upon, they are most likely 30% lower then what they actually are. Us "socialist countries" are far better dealing with this. @Trial153 if you hate socialism then you must hate the stimulus packages the government puts out, the police, fire departments, the military, medicare etc. I suggest you either take that minimal $1200 and give it back to Uncle Sam or buy some books.

BTW as the socialist country to the north were able to get $2000 per month for up to 4 months. This is most likely going to increase also

To put more perspective on the US vs EU cases...

The largest country in the EU by area is France with a just under 250,000 sq mi.

The United States is just under 3.8 million sq mi.

Germany has the largest population of the EU countries at just under 84,000,000.

United states population over 327,000,000 people.

It's fine to look to the European countries for data but America is a whole different animal. We are massive and our tale will be different than Europe's.

You can see the simple death rate has crept up to over 2.25%. I figure this is because the lack of tests. You can’t hide a death but you can not test someone that would probably test positive.

Just to reflect where we've come in one week's time. On March 25th, we lost 247 people to Covid and the death total stood at 1027. Today we lost 1049 people and the death total stands at 5102.

The numbers a week from now will be as startling as the numbers today look compared to a week ago.
