Cook in the tent or no.

Yes we do, but out meals are different. Most are cooked prior then froze. So the warming up side is just vacuum sealed bags in the boiling water, usually the main course anyways. One time we did try and fry catfish in the tent that was a really bad idea.

We use same method...it is fantastic. No mess or dishes to clean up.

We use a coleman 2-burner on a small table inside the tent for warming the water. Also warms the tent somewhat..

Wood stove for warming the tent for real...and can heat water for coffee or oatmeal.

We did just acquire a vestibule this spring for our wall tent but it will likely be used more for gear storage.

Who needs to cook when you can just eat chef boy r dee out of the can cold for every meal.....just sayin....

I cook on top of the wood stove and also have a small folding table that is use a double burner propane stove on top of it. Cooking in the tent is great.

Just because you haven't seen one, doesn't mean they aren't around. That food smell will stay in your tent as well. So even if you aren't in grizz country, you're likely still creating a temptation when you get back to occupied territory.

So, for me, unless you're east of Roy, I wouldn't. Get a small popup 10x10 or a vestibule and cook there. You also don't to use up that much space in your tent. Having a little elbow room in a warm tent after a hunt is high luxury in camp.

As for a percolator, the classic blue enamelware percolator. I also like a French press in camp if it's just me.
I understand and you have me thinking possibly going a different route. There have been bears in the Root from time to time. Might as well get used to acting like they are here all the time. mtmuley

We don't worry about cooking in the tent with our cow dogs outside. They will let us know if a bear, lion, or other unwanted animal is near camp. Hunting deer or elk with hunting dogs is illegal in Idaho but having Border Collies with you is not, they are herding dogs.

mtmulie.......within the last few years a couple grizzlies have been spotted between Darby Mt and Leadore Id, and if the do-gooders in WDC get their way we may have more.

I made it a point to never have a firearm in hand while working cows, mostly so I wouldn’t shoot my cow dog.
