Catch All Fishing Thread

The local warm water fishery is infested with perch. The population has absolutely exploded, and the biologists are hoping people will take thousands of them to help balance things out.

I brought home 15 between 7-8” in about 20 minutes of effort, after spending most of the day chasing walleye from shore.

After last night’s dinner, I may single-handedly take thousands of them. Ten fillets with fries made a meal, and they fillet out QUICK. I’ll be buying a 4” fillet knife this week specifically for them.

Pick up a hand scaler if you haven’t ever tried them that way- for those 7-8 inchers, I love scaling and keeping the skin on.
Have one. Feels like it takes longer and just makes more of a mess. Especially if I have to do it in the kitchen at home.

@R.K.
I don't get many perch and have only tried this on a few but it works and with practice it would be very slick.
I’ve tried it a few times (twice again on Sunday)- takes about as long as the video, and there’s always some gunk that flies off into the walls or counter. I can fillet one at least twice as fast as that, and the fillets cook quicker (plus my wife will eat them).

For my setup, a 4” knife and fillets just flat out works. I did 13 perch and an 18” walleye in well under of 10 minutes on Sunday. Would’ve been faster with the 4” knife instead of the 6”.
