but here is a question, I have seen a lot of these guess the score contests, and there are always guys that will guess down to the 1/8 of an inch,,,,do they honestly think they can guess the sum of all measurements minus deducations and come up with an intellegent guess down to the 1/8 of an inch???

Last year I went archery and shot a squeaker.

First day of rifle season I was out deer hunting with a friend when I spotted up this bull, he wasn't very hard to spot laying out in the open like that.......................no tag for me. He was a very happy camper though, in Colorado OTC.

I blocked out his face cause he is a bunch of gay porn. I figured most on this site would recognize him and feell uncomfortable

Here's a few bulls that are in your requested range (300-360). Stan may have trouble posting some examples of bulls in this range.......now 360-420, he'll have no problem.

All of these bulls have been officially measured, so the gross and net are known. These are simply medium bulls in many zones.....but not bad for the particular area I was hunting. IMO, the tag you have.....holding out for a bull bigger than these is a must.

Sometimes the measurements are mute when faced with a unique antler configuration. This is my partner's bull he arrowed the same year I arrowed mine (above photo). It's gross score wasn't bad....net was substantially lower. But.....this is a neat bull I'd love to have.

Don't you guys have anything better to do than call each other pee pee heads and score elk. If the elk is something you would be happy with shoot it, especially with a bow. If you go on a guided hunt than you should shoot a big one, cause you pay for it. That's why I only hunt public land with a bow, cause I'm happy shooting a calf. Can't eat the antler's, but damn they look good......Oak, I would have to say 332.....Not that I care.

I do not know what promted this post... But in the field this is how I judge the bull.

First, I look at are the backs. If the backs are good lets say the G5 and G6 are 6 inches long or around there and there is some mass. I look at the length of the ear of the elk to determine from a distance the length of the G5 and G6. The mass will continue through out the horns.

Second, I look at the G3. This is where the bull will drop in points if it is only 8 inches long. If this is longer then double the length of the elk ear you have a great elk and typically it will be in the 350 - 365 inch bull.

Last, I look at the fronts, width, and over all symetricalness (if that is a word) of the rack. The G1 and G2 must be longer then the nose.

One last word... Sometimes you can look at a bull and there is no mass to the antlers. These are the ones that screw me up. But if it is thin I usually going to shoot it. In archery with thick brush you do not have a lot of time to judge. I can scan the three steps in two seconds. I also shot a 5 X6 that I thought would be 310 and ended up being something like 273...
